Beyond Paradise star Kris Marshall, who stars as DI Humphrey Goodman, has shared how much he loves filming in South East Cornwall. The actor got his start in the beloved Paradise universe in 2014 after landing the role in the original BBC series Death in Paradise, which takes place in Guadeloupe.
However, after six seasons, the fan favourite was replaced by Ardal O’Hanlon after he stepped down to raise his young family in England. Thankfully for fans, Marshall reprised his role in the all-new spin-off, which saw him lead a new team of murder-solving investigators in the fictional town of Shipton Abbott. Addressing his shift, he previously told Lorraine Kelly: “But six months later I’m standing on a film set in a car park in Dagenham thinking at 4 o’clock in the morning thinking, ‘Have I made the right decision?'”

However, in a recent interview, the actor declared his newfound love for Cornwall’s natural beauty as he shared the activities he takes on during his downtime from filming.
He told Voice Newspapers: “I’m a big fan of getting my ‘vitamin sea’. Whether it’s surfing or swimming, being by the water makes me happy.
Marshall revealed: “One of my favourite locations is Rame Head. It offers stunning views and has a fascinating abandoned military site. It’s a great spot for filming, and after work, you can head down to a secret cove for a swim.”
Beyond Paradise has also had a lasting impact on the location after dramatically increasing tourism to the area.
As the scenes are filmed at the real-life location of The Sardine Factory Restaurant in Looe, Cornwall, viewers have travelled to the area and enjoyed a meal at the new hotspot.
The popular eatery, which is renowned for its fresh seafood and breathtaking harbour views, saw bookings skyrocket by 444% during the first episode.
The restaurant owner Ben Palmer told the Cornish Times: “It was so exciting to be approached by the BBC and asked if they could use the restaurant for filming.
“The team have done an incredible job of shining a spotlight on Looe and surrounding areas and now we are seeing an uplift in bookings as a direct result. We are over the moon.”
