EASTENDERS’ star James Bye has shown off a surprising new look on the red carpet after being k.i.l.l.e.d off the soap as Martin Fowler.

James, 41, played beloved Martin from 2014 until he d.i.e.d in the BBC soap’s live 40th anniversary episode.

James and his wife Victoria appeared on the red carpet as they attended the Thunderbolt premiere at Leicester Square.

James was seen rocking a set of dashing sideburns and swept back hair – a look which was miles away from market trader Martin’s usual flair.

But James has taken on the new role of the iconic Jane Austen hero Mr Darcy in the theatrical world premiere of D.e.a.t.h Comes To Pemberley – so that could be the explanation.

At the time of his departure, James said: “I am leaving EastEnders on an absolute high after the explosive live 40th anniversary episode.

“After a decade of gritty storylines it’s going to be quite a switch to put on period clothes as one of literature’s romantic leading men, but I can’t wait for this new chapter to begin.”

Written by P.D. James, the 2011 novel is a murder-mystery continuation to Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

This stage adaptation was adapted by Duncan Abel and Rachel Wagstaff, while it is directed by Joe Harmston.

It also includes Endeavour star Sean Rigby as Colonel Fitzwilliam among the cast.

Viewers watched as Martin d.i.e.d heroically following an explosion tearing through the Queen Vic.

The fruit-and-veg stall holder stayed behind to rescue his beloved ex-wife Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner).

As the two made their exit, a steel beam fell and crushed Martin’s legs.

As he lay trapped, he used his final moments to propose to Stacey, declaring his undying love for her.

But after the emergency services began to lift the beam, Martin succumbed to his injuries, leaving Stacey screaming in devastation.

But playing Mr Darcy is not the only source of new income for James because The Sun revealed he signed onto celebrity video messaging platform Cameo just days after his final EastEnders scenes.

James is charging fans a whopping £51 for a personalised message from him, which average a minute-and-a-half in duration.

The dad-of-four is also offering to promote businesses with an official endorsement from him – as prices start at £1,778.

A source said: “James signing up for Cameo at the height of his popularity is a no-brainer, it’s easy cash for him to make before his next acting role.

“He joined the platform on the week of his exit from EastEnders and has already been inundated with requests.”

According to his profile, James is willing to send fans a simple Happy Birthday message, as well as take on the role of agony uncle and offer advice or an inspirational pep talk.
