Emmerdale’s Rhona makes bold move in final courtroom with Gus in new video – ‘sealing’ his fate

Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) is once again in court in Emmerdale – where she previously stood trial for kidnapping baby Ivy.

She was cleared of the charge of kidnapping the baby, who was conceived using embryos that Rhona and her ex-husband Gus Malcolms (Alan McKenna) had frozen during their marriage.

Rhona explained to the court that Gus had been unable to care for Ivy after her birth and Rhona and her family had taken on the task, bonding with Ivy during the period she stayed with them.

When Gus planned to take Ivy to leave in France, meaning she would hardly ever see the child she’d come to think of as her daughter, Rhona felt she had no choice but to flee the village and go into hiding.

Now Gus is in court charged with fraud after obtaining the embryos without Rhona’s consent. Recently he asked her to give a victim impact statement to the court, in the hope that he would get a lighter sentence.

Rhona agreed to this, and in return Gus signed papers to give Rhona guardianship of Ivy while he was in prison. He also told Marlon (Mark Charnock) that, even if he got a light sentence, he would still want Rhona to be in Ivy’s life.

A new video shows the moment that Rhona takes the stand to give her statement. We previously saw Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) going through the statement with Rhona ahead of the hearing and saying that the statement was quite ‘glowing’ about Gus.

But, as the video shows, Rhona may be about to deviate from the agreement with Gus. As the judge asks her to read the victim impact statement Gus looks on, desperate for her to say something that will put him in a better light. Marlon sits behind him.

Rhona’s statement begins with her describing how her marriage to Gus was brief and they had no children – something that Gus found very painful. She says she understands why this drove him to take the action he did.

She continues: ‘I have been able to come to terms…’ but stumbles over the word ‘able.’ Apologising to the judge and turning to Gus she says, ‘I’m sorry. I can’t do this.’

Marlon’s face is a picture of worry as he and Gus wait to hear what will happen. Gus knows that his future rests on what she’s going to say next, and Marlon is thinking about the consequences for their custody of Ivy if Rhona should break the agreement.

What will Rhona do?
