Frantic Lauren shares deepest worry in EastEnders about baby’s birth
Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) has expressed concern for her unborn baby in EastEnders.
As viewers of the BBC One soap will remember, last year, Lauren sustained injuries during a horrific mass crushing, and the pain became too much handle.
She quickly developed a p.a.i.n.k.i.l.l.e.r addiction, even taking her cousin Amy Mitchell’s (Ellie Dadd) liquid morphine under the pretence that she was returning it to the chemist.
When her symptoms began to worsen, Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) suggested that she could be pregnant – and a test proved that this was the case.
When Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) realised what Lauren was doing, she threatened to expose the ordeal to Peter, who had already become suspicious.
In a shocking twist, Cindy would go on to deal her own pills.
With the truth outed at Christmas, Lauren began to fear that her baby would be hooked on the medication and has lived each day wondering whether that would be an issue.
She was told to continue taking methadone as going cold turkey could actually affect the baby’s health.
In today’s episode, the midwife visited her at home for a final check-up before she gave birth.
Lauren lay across the sofa as Peter wandered around the room keeping an eye on his phone.
But who was his contacting?
She became frustrated when the midwife began to mention potential complications with the pregnancy and an extended stay in hospital afterwards.
Lauren picked up on a key piece of information – everything should be fine, but she couldn’t help but wonder whether something would go wrong.
Later, at their engagement party, the family discussed how painful labour would be and Peter’s dad Ian (Adam Woodyatt) made an ill-judged comment about how having an epidural could ’cause an avalanche’.
Ouch.
If that wasn’t bad enough, a surprise visitor joined in the celebrations.
Cindy flippin’ Beale!
Is that who Peter has been in touch with?
