Emmerdale’s Joe Tate was pushed out of a window at Home Farm, and now there are nine suspects who could all be as guilty as each other.
It’s been an intense few months ever since Ned Porteous reprised his role as Joe Tate at the latter end of last year. First returning as the puppet master behind Will Taylor’s revenge plan for Kim Tate, the full extent of his deception was yet to be unveiled.
The villain appears to have no boundaries when it comes to putting his life first, and after learning that he has chronic kidney disease, viewers watched as Joe was determined to get a kidney transplant.
But, of course, this is soap world and he couldn’t go the normal route. Instead, he hired the mysterious Dr. Crowley and went on the hunt for his perfect match.
Someone took their revenge on Joe Tate, but who was it?
After first targeting Noah by spiking him, he wasn’t a match for the transplant and after being stranded on the road, Charity veered the limo out of the way to avoid hitting her son – leading to the tragic triple d.e.a.t.h of Leyla Harding, Amy Wyatt and Suzy Merton.
He then set his eyes on Caleb, and after blackmailing Manpreet into getting a blood sample he secured that his uncle would be a match. Caleb since found out that Joe was the reason he was stabbed and his kidney taken, but agreed to keep it under wraps so that Joe wouldn’t run to the police about Anthony Fox.
Now, his fate has been sealed after he was pushed from a window at Home Farm, with nine villagers as potential suspects.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Ned shared: “This particular storyline I didn’t know much about, it wasn’t part of the arc when I came back to the show, obviously I knew about the kidney storyline but not about this, it’s always good fun.”

Billy Fletcher

Motivation: Billy was heartbroken when Dawn broke up with him, and blamed himself for not being the best husband with the unlicensed boxing matches and kissing Manpreet. However, through Clemmie he learned that Dawn was seeing Joe behind his back. After also finding out that Joe had threatened Clemmie, could he have pushed Joe?
Dawn Fletcher

Motivation: Dawn is arguably the only villager who sees the good in Joe. Having ended her marriage with Billy in order to pursue a relationship with him, the pair are seemingly in a bubble of happiness together. However, as everything gets revealed in front of her eyes as well as the threat Joe gave Clemmie, could she feel disgusted at the real Joe?

Motivation: Clemmie spotted Joe kissing Dawn, and out of sheer upset she bit him when he asked her to keep it quiet. Later, he tried to bribe her with a gift but then threatened to send her to where “damaged kids” go if she was to tell anyone what she saw.

Motivation: With Caleb still living with the consequences of Joe’s kidney heist, and the truth out in the open, could he finally have had enough and decided to silence Joe Tate for good?
Ruby Miligan

Motivation: Her protective nature over Caleb could be reason enough, but pairing that with the fact he has threatened to run to the police about Anthony Fox, could she have pushed him in the hopes that the nightmare would finally be over?
Charity Dingle

Motivation: Viewers will recall that Charity has had it in for Joe since he returned, and only recently were her suspicions confirmed as Ruby told her that he was the one who had spiked Noah. Will she go to the extreme?

Motivation: While Cain agreed with Kim Tate that Caleb and Joe need to reach a treaty, will he feel that it’s his duty to punish Joe after Matty learns that he’s the reason Amy d.i.e.d in the crash?

Motivation: Noah was also one of Joe’s biggest supporters, as he hoped to grow a genuine bond with his half-brother. However, after all of the secrets, lies and guilt that Joe put upon him, could he finally snap and see red?

Motivation: While having no real problem with Joe Tate previously, at the party Kerry learned that he’s the reason her daughter Amy was tragically k.i.l.l.e.d. Having only just started to properly bond with her over the last few years, could Kerry feel as though she has nothing left to lose?
