The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) once again orchestrated a plan to put an Emmerdale resident in danger tonight only this time, he didn’t want to be hailed the hero.

Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) has been wandering around the village with a dark cloud hanging over him for days.

Last week, he was blamed for the slurry tank incident, which saw contaminated liquid flow into the main water supply. As a result, it saw Claudette (Flo Wilson) and Charles (Kevin Mathurin) fall unwell, and put Vic’s (Isabel Hodgins) son Harry in hospital.

A very guilty Mack has felt utterly devastated ever since the ordeal unfolded.

Currently unaware that John (Oliver Farnworth) was actually responsible, Mack believes that his reckless behaviour almost k.i.l.l.e.d a child and has put Moira’s (Natalie J Robb) farm business in serious jeopardy.

Being enemy number 1 in the village at the moment prompted Mack to tell Aaron (Danny Miller) that he no longer wanted to be his best man at his wedding. The decision wasn’t as a result of something Aaron had done, but Mackenzie felt that hiding away from everyone would be better.

Aware of how upset Aaron was by the development, John decided to do something about it, believing he could get Mackenzie to change his mind.

We won’t reveal exactly what John did, but the plan involved putting Moira in serious danger, just like plenty of his other plots. He hid behind some hay bales and listened to her call out in pain, before ringing Mackenzie and asking to meet him on the farm.

Due to the fact John was still hiding by the time Mack arrived, he heard Moira’s cries and raced to her. He helped his sister and hugged her when the ordeal had ended, and she was utterly relieved.

John joined Moira and Mack shortly after and set about managing her injuries. A while later, Mack apologised to John for believing he was a bad person, and eventually agreed to his request of being Aaron’s best man again.

Tonight’s episode ended with John suffering a flashback of him dumping Nate’s body into the river last year. While he believes things are back on track ahead of the wedding, he is clearly struggling with the weight of his secret keeping.

With Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) on the case regarding Nate’s vanishing, can John keep things together as the wedding looms?
