Tyler Perry’s House of Payne | Season 14 Episode 6 Review: House of Bad Neighbors
…delivers his lines with a genuine energy that makes the scenes fun to watch. His chemistry with both Calvin and Laura makes the family dynamics believable, and it helps ground the emotional tension that’s coming.
So anyway, after the light breakfast moment, things start to shift. Calvin tries to playfully flirt with Laura, but the tension is thick. Laura isn’t really playing along. Calvin clearly notices something’s up, and Laura wastes no time getting into it. She starts grilling Calvin about Miranda again—basically questioning his boundaries and accusing him of still being too involved with his ex-wife.
Now, this is where the drama kicks up to House of Pain Level 10.
Laura is visibly upset, and rightfully so if you look at it from her perspective—Miranda seems to be around a lot. Calvin tries to assure her that Miranda’s just around because of Christian, and there’s nothing more going on. But Laura ain’t buying it.
And honestly? I’m torn. On one hand, Laura is doing the most. Like, she’s been in “rage mode” for the last few episodes every time Miranda is even mentioned. On the other hand, the show is doing a great job showing how complicated co-parenting and blended family dynamics can be. It’s messy, and this episode doesn’t try to make it neat or clean.
Then Janine stops by to visit Miranda—and boom, Miranda vents to her about everything going on. This is where the episode gives you some classic emotional weight. Miranda is clearly still hurt. She even questions if she’s doing the right thing by trying to remain so involved with Calvin and Christian. Janine gives her some wise advice, basically telling her she has to know her worth and figure out what’s really motivating her involvement. Is it for Christian—or is it still because of unresolved feelings for Calvin?
From there, Miranda dips when Wellington shows up, and Janine gets the whole story from CJ about the HOA flyers and what’s going down. And all the while, the tension in the loft just simmers. The episode ends on a note that makes it clear this drama is far from over.
Honestly, this was one of the best-structured House of Payne episodes in the BET reboot era. The dual plots didn’t feel disconnected like they sometimes do. There was great pacing, a lot of good character moments (especially CJ and Janine, who often get sidelined), and a perfect mix of comedy and drama. From Malik’s Cookie Monster moment to the intense Laura-Calvin-Miranda triangle, this one was a banger.
Final thoughts?
-
Miss Wellington is definitely about to be a problem.
-
Laura is spiraling fast, and I’m not sure where that’s going to lead.
-
Miranda might be having a personal breakthrough soon.
-
CJ being the glue that brings it all together was a great touch.
-
And the neighborhood BBQ setup? That’s classic Payne family energy. Can’t wait to see how that plays out.
