Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Belle King has agreed to start trying for a baby with her abusive husband Tom in Emmerdale.

Earlier this week, Tom turned violent by burning Belle’s hand with scalding water after discovering she’d secretly been taking her birth control pills.

In Thursday’s (May 9) episode, Belle brought Tom around to visit her family, and he complained he was uncomfortable in such settings because of his troubled background.

When Lydia asked how the dinner party had gone, Tom immediately mentioned that Marlon and Rhona had ruined the night with their “massive row”.

Lydia noticed Belle’s injured hand, but Tom interrupted to insist his wife had scalded herself on the kitchen tap.

“I’ve turned the tap down now, it won’t happen again,” Tom insisted.

Lydia soon suggested “it won’t be long” before the pair would have children, but she immediately apologised after sensing Belle and Tom’s discomfort.

“We do want kids,” Belle timidly answered, with Tom piping up: “No rush, though, only when we’re ready!”

Once Lydia nipped off, Tom told Belle that he was embarrassed that “half the village” knew they were trying for a baby when she’d put a hold on the plans.

“You, me, Piper [the dog], let’s just enjoy that for now,” Belle replied.

Back at home, Tom broached the subject of buying a family home, with Belle finally relenting and agreeing they could try for a child.

“I want us to start trying for a baby,” Belle told her husband.

The relative calm for the pair won’t last long, as Tom will once again show his dark side as he turns violent with Belle next week.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
