Ruby and Caleb’s sudden hospital dash in dramatic Emmerdale video

Nicky Milligan (Lewis Cope) has been lying in a coma since he was involved in a serious car crash in Emmerdale. He suffered serious head injuries and was unconscious when Ethan Anderson (Emile John) – who’d been driving – pulled him out of the car and then fled the scene.

Nicky’s parents, Caleb (William Ash) and Ruby (Beth Cordingly), kept vigil by his bedside willing him to wake up.

They were devastated when they were told that their son was still too unwell to be brought out of the coma and worried that the more time went on without any improvement in Nicky’s condition, the worse his prospects would be.

Meanwhile attention turned to Ethan, after he admitted to his dad Charles (Kevin Mathurin) that he was the one who’d been driving the car, and Charles called the police and turned him in.

As well as facing whatever punishment the law might hand out to him, Ethan also faces the wrath of Ruby and Caleb, who are baying for his blood after discovering that he caused the accident, left Nicky on his own – although he saw Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) arrive at the scene as he left – and then visited him in hospital and said nothing.

A new video clip shows the moment that Ruby and Caleb finally get some news about their son’s condition.

Back at home, Ruby has just been doing a spot of food shopping when she rushes in to tell Caleb that the hospital have just called to say that they’re bringing Nicky out of his coma.

She insists they have to be there when he wakes up and Caleb grabs his coat.

As he heads to the door, Ruby wonders whether she should put the freezer stuff away before they go.

She’s not being callous – she’s terrified. She knows that when they get to the hospital they’ll find out whether Nicky will ever properly recover.

‘What if he’s not right? What if he’s got brain damage?’ Ruby says.

Caleb’s face shows that he knows exactly what she’s feeling but he’s being strong. ‘We need to be there,’ he insists, taking her hand and leading her to the door.

What will they find when they get there? Will Nicky make a full recovery – or is there bad news still to come?
