Outside HOP, Josh started dead-naming Matty and headed back inside to teach him a lesson, while Samson followed despite his misgivings.

The situation between Josh and Matty grew increasingly hostile for Matty, until Josh started threatening him to give up the money in the till.

The stand-off escalated and Josh shoved Samson into Matty, causing him to be stabbed by the knife that Matty was holding.

With Samson bleeding out, Josh stood back and accused Matty of coming at them with the knife.

Matty was stunned to realise the narrative had been turned and panicked about what the consequences might be for him.

In upcoming Emmerdale scenes, Moira comforts worried Matty at Keepers Cottage, while Samson faces accusations from Cain who demands he tells the truth.

Matty confronts Samson, hoping to convince him to tell the truth. Matty is hopeful he’s got through to Samson but he’s left panicked when later, PC Swirling informs Matty that Samson has contacted the police accusing Matty of putting pressure on him.

Matty angrily confronts Samson leading to a confrontation between the two but PC Swirling quickly catches up with him and marches him away towards a police car.

Cain glares at Sam as the battle lines are drawn between them. The next day, sat in his cell, Matty is nervous as an officer informs him he’s leaving for court in an hour.

Meanwhile, Moira is furious when Amy reveals Matty’s solicitor was on the phone and the police have dropped the robbery investigation due to lack of evidence.

Samson starts to freak out when Cain informs the Woolpack that Matty is being kept on remand. Lydia has to pull Sam away from Cain as the tension erupts.

Outside the court, a shell-shocked Matty is aware he’s in danger as the police officer suggests he remains quiet about being transgender in prison.

Amy fears Matty is a sitting target as she watches him being bundled into a police van.

How will Matty cope behind bars? And will the truth come out about what really happened?

Emmerdale airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
