Emmerdale Dingle feud teased as Samson ‘feels trapped’ after betraying Matty

Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano has hinted that his character Matty Barton could one day forgive Samson Dingle for getting him locked up in the ITV soap

Emmerdale’s Ash Palmisciano has hinted at a possible future reconciliation between Matty Barton and Samson Dingle.

Fans of the popular ITV soap will know that Matty is currently behind bars after Samson made false accusations to the police about a recent stabbing incident at The Hide.

Samson was unintentionally hurt during an attempted robbery at the bar and restaurant last month. His mate Josh Cope persuaded him to falsely claim that Matty had intentionally stabbed him.

This has led to a family feud between Samson’s dad, Sam, and his uncle Cain Dingle, who is also Matty’s stepdad. While Moira and Cain are backing Matty, Sam and his wife Lydia are siding with Samson, believing his account of what happened.

Matty now finds himself in danger in prison as a threatening transphobe targets him. But will Matty ever forgive Samson for landing him in jail?, reports the Express.

Discussing whether Matty could ever forgive Samson, Ash said: “Right now, Matty is so hurt and confused as to how he even got to this point.”

“One minute, he was just going about his everyday life and the next minute he was in prison. He knows that the truth hasn’t quite come out yet”, according to Digital Spy.

Speaking about the Dingle family dispute, Ash explained how Matty is puzzled as to why Samson would want to put him in such a situation.

Emmerdale’s Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty Barton, has dished the dirt on the upcoming drama in the Dales. He reflected: “Interestingly enough, I think Matty also understands the pressure that Samson has been under. There was a storyline we did a few years ago, where Matty got involved with some more toxic sort of guys.”

Reflecting on past plots, he said: “In that storyline, Matty tried to behave like them, thinking that’s the way to be and that’s how every young guy should be. Matty wanted to fit in.”

Ash revealed Matty can relate to Samson’s current squeeze due to his own experiences, noting: “I think Samson’s in a situation where he feels trapped and he can’t really speak out against Josh.”

He went on to say: “So I think knowing Matty, knowing how forgiving he is, I think one day he will forgive him but it’s going to take some doing.”

Drama hits new heights next week on Emmerdale when Matty faces danger after Robbo learns his secret and decides to barge into his prison cell.

As if things couldn’t get any tenser, later in the week, Amy and Moira become anxious when they realise they haven’t heard from Matty.

Lydia is left uneasy after she spots Josh threatening Samson, who’s being coerced into keeping schtum for the police. Can Lydia smell a rat, and more importantly, after getting together with Moira, will they join forces to help him?

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
