Emmerdale’s Samson Dingle actor teases sad exit and when he could return

Emmerdale's Samson Dingle actor Sam Hall has addressed a possible exit on the ITV soap for his character, after it was claimed he'd been axed earlier this year

Emmerdale’s Sam Hall, who plays Samson Dingle on the ITV soap, has teased his character will soon leave the Dales amid reports of an axe.

Amid a more recent chat seeing him share his hopes to stay on the show after almost 20 years in the role, the actor recently told The Mirror and other press that a sad departure could well be on the cards following huge drama. Not only that, but he appeared to hint how long the character will be gone for and if a return is sealed.

It was reported earlier this year that Samson would be killed off in a harrowing storyline, but the actor soon denied this while an exit itself was not ruled out. Samson was then revealed to be at the centre of a dark stabbing storyline, while he did survive – but it saw him set up Matty Barton.

The truth finally comes spilling out in the coming days, and Samson is in trouble that seems to pave the way for an exit. Whether that be prison or a life on the run, actor Sam added fuel to the fire with regards to whether Samson will leave the show or not.

He told us: “[There’s] the emotional side of dealing with the fact that for a couple of years, he won’t be seeing his dad or his step-mum who is like his real mum, and that has an affect on him.” While he may have been talking hypothetically, it really isn’t looking good for Samson.

Matty’s relatives and a number of the Dingles have turned on him, and Samson’s dad Sam, over the lie about the stabbing. Even stepmother Lydia Dingle is at war with the pair over the truth, with a split teased for her and Sam.

But spoilers for next week tease after briefly running away, Samson could end up fleeing for good as his lies are a police matter. After all, Samson does confess at the station what he did – but will he be sent down for his part in the cover-up and what really happened at the Hop that day?

Meanwhile Sam actor James Hooton revealed his character’s anger, as he tries to help his son flee only to find out he’s confessed. He told us: “He feels initially betrayed by the fact Lydia has made him do the right thing which is confess that things aren’t what they were originally told and words are said.

“Sam says something along the lines of ‘I’ll never forgive you for this’ but essentially it’s all water under the bride as soon as Sam manages to get his brain into gear and he realises she has made Samson do the right thing in the long run. Sam is only about the short term in the mind for his son not to end up in jail and Sam many years ago did the same thing and ran away from taking responsibility for his actions so he sees it as a way to do things but essentially he realises Lydia has got this covered and got Samson to do the right thing and I think they will be fine over time.”

Meanwhile, Lydia actress Karen Blick also addressed Samson’s possible exit. She told us: “I don’t think Lydia fully understands what that will mean; if if means a prison sentence, will it be a relatively short prison sentence? He’s a clever lad, he’ll be able to come back out and put his life back together.”
