ITV Emmerdale exit ‘confirmed’ as soap legend issues troublemaker with stern warning

Secrets are unravelling for Samson Dingle as the teen came clean about his stabbing to Lydia and Sam Dingle. Fearing what's ahead, the lad was urged to do a runner.

Sam Dingle has given up on his son and urged him to leave Emmerdale, but will the troublemaker take his advice?

ITV viewers caught up with life in the Dales this Friday, July 12, after Moira Barton and Mackenzie Boyd’s (respectively portrayed by Natalie J Robb and Lawrence Robb) shock arrest.

Much like viewers of the Yorkshire-based programme predicted, Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) told Moira that her son, Matty Barton, had organised his own “attack” behind bars with the help of inmate Les.

Devastated by her son’s despair, Moira made the most of a brief encounter with Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) and begged her for help to get through to Samson, once and for all.

“I’ve already buried one child”, the farmer begged, in reference to the late Holly Barton, “please don’t make me bury the other.” Meanwhile, Samson’s pal Josh (Osian Morgan) made his return to the long-running show this Friday to remind him that if he ever grassed on him, he could take matters into his own hands as some viewers believe Samson could be killed off in a cover-up scheme.

Moira’s emotional plea was enough for Lydia to confront Samson in later scenes and, rattled by the knowledge that Matty had organised his own assault behind bars, the youngster finally revealed he’d been lying about his stabbing all along. Deflated and horrified by his son’s deceit and just as Samson contemplated the idea of taking Matty’s place in prison for perverting the course of justice, Sam threw in the towel and the episode ended as he told the teen to pack up his things and do a runner.

Viewers had mixed thoughts after the twist as they took to X, otherwise known as Twitter to share their thoughts: “Typical Sam, running away’s only gona make things so much worse. Lydia’s right sure, Samson might get a warning wasting Police time, giving a false statement etc but owning up is his best option. Josh’s the real villain. What he did – hate crime”, one viewer penned.

A second fan took to the social media platform as they seemed to deem the twist wasn’t realistic: “Who writes this rubbish? Sam tells Samson to run? Great advice from father to son.”

Another argued: “What Moira should do is take Samson down to the police station and stay with him while he tells the police what happens!” While a third echoed: “Samson needs to face up to what he’s done. Running is not the answer. Sam is an idiot.”

This comes after Samson actor Sam Hall teased a sad exit for his character after numerous reports earlier this year. At the time, it was alleged that bosses were considering killing his on-screen alter ego off but the 20-year-old star denied the claims, although he didn’t rule out a departure.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Sam opened up about his character’s downfall as his secrets flow out in the open: “[There’s] the emotional side of dealing with the fact that for a couple of years, he won’t be seeing his dad or his step-mum who is like his real mum, and that has an affect on him.”

Matty’s relatives and a number of the Dingles have turned on him, and Samson’s dad Sam, over the lie about the stabbing. Even stepmother Lydia Dingle is at war with the pair over the truth, with a split teased for her and Sam.

Spoilers for next week tease after briefly running away, Samson could end up fleeing for good as his lies are a police matter. After all, Samson does confess at the station what he did, but will he be sent down?
