But Sam and Lydia are left horrified when Samson gets arrested for assault on Josh.

While Moira watches on, seemingly satisfied, Cain wonders if Moira was involved.

The next day Cain struggles to believe Moira wasn’t the one who grassed him up.

In the Woolpack, Amelia’s anxious for news of Samson’s plea hearing, as she worries about the repercussions for Esther of having her biological dad locked up.

The Woolpack is silenced when Lydia enters with news from court.

How long will Samson be sentenced for?

Elsewhere on the Dales, newcomer John Sugden arrives at his mum’s funeral.

Once they arrive at the church Victoria puts her foot in it with a bereaved son and is stunned to hear his name is John Sugden.

Pollard awkwardly confirms John could actually be her half brother – her dad’s son.

Meanwhile, it’s not long before back in the village Mackenzie receives a call at the garage about a breakdown nearby and sets off to help.

When Pollard and Victoria return to the village they are surprised to find John – who has broken down – in the village.

Victoria is delighted to see him again.

But before long, John is ruffling a few feathers with his appearance in the village.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
