Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) was questioned by the police in Friday’s (February 23) episode of Emmerdale after stabbing Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).

This ordeal only happened as a result of Charity’s ongoing struggles with her mental health.

The beloved character is experiencing mood swings, PTSD, hallucinations and night terrors after killing Damon ‘Harry’ Harris (Robert Beck) last December. We know that Charity only pulled the trigger on a gun to save Mack, but keeping her husband alive has not prevented her from spiralling.

Yesterday (February 22), things reached a dramatic turning point when Charity tried to rest on the sofa, but started seeing Harry again.

In an attempt to defend herself, Charity pulled out a knife, but was horrified to realise she had stabbed Mackenzie by mistake.

As Moira (Natalie J Robb), Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Liam (Jonny McPherson) headed to hospital, Charity was arrested and taken away in a police car.

Tonight, as Moira waited for Mackenzie to wake up, Charity was taken to an interview room for questioning.

Still in shock, Charity struggled to communicate with the detective and then started to panic about not seeing Mack.

A little while later, after calming down, Charity opened up and said the stabbing happened because she was trying to protect herself from Harry.

Completely broken and horrified at the fact she could’ve killed Mack, Charity told the officer ‘you need to charge me’ because she believes she ‘destroys everything’.

Now Mackenzie has woken up, where will that leave Charity?

Will the police charge her?

And what will Charity and Mackenzie’s relationship look like now?
