Emmerdale spoilers: Rhona Goskirk’s huge decision on her future after she gets a stunning offer
Rhona Goskirk’s (Zoe Henry) kidnap plot and subsequent arrest have left her in deep legal doo doo in Emmerdale, with no tangible way out.
Gus (Alan McKenna) wants to see the book thrown at her and with the court case on the horizon, everyone in her family is terrified. Her decision to abandon her children for a baby that’s not legally hers has huge consequences.
Rhona is still avoiding facing the reality of what she did and feels unable to call herself a criminal, which actress Zoe Henry explains is due to the fact she feels she has done nothing wrong.
‘It was extreme to run off with the baby, I get it and I think Rhona gets that but also fundamentally, “she’s my flesh and blood and this situation is wrong”’, Zoe told Metro.co.uk.
So, Rhona decides to plead not guilty which leaves Marlon (Mark Charnock) and Mary (Louise Jameson) terrified, who fear this could come with a harsher sentence.
April is also struggling and Amelia (Daisy Campbell) catches her behaving strangely, which is down to her sneaking off to confront Gus herself. He is taken aback when he finds the teenager on his doorstep begging him to tell the police Rhona is innocent. But with all her good intentions, she slips up and reveals her step-mum’s plans to plead not guilty. Gus is furious at this, but still April’s actions get him thinking.
Actor Alan McKenna divulged: ‘I think it gets him thinking a lot about what he’s doing now could impact his relationship with his daughter further down the line.’ So April’s actions here could be key.
He’s angry though, and drops April back with plans to confront Rhona.
During the heated discussion, Rhona makes an ill-advised move to see Ivy, causing Gus instinctively to jump in to stop her. Marlon springs into his own defensive manoeuvre and the result sees Gus fall into a heap on the floor. April’s plan has well and truly backfired.
Gus is now fully fired up, throwing back Marlon’s apology in his face.
But Gus has time to reflect and approaches Rhona with an offer. He is facing his own legal issues regarding the theft of the embryo that caused this sorry mess, so he lays a compromise on the table. If they both change their statements – meaning Rhona pleads guilty – he’ll give her what she wants, which is access to Ivy.
Alan revealed: ‘He ends up offering everything that they were asking for before, which is him to be around and to share custody. So he says, I will take the house of market, I’ll cancel the sale. “I’ll stay here and we can find a way”.’ He added that this is a move to get Rhona to change her plea.
‘He believes that offer is enough to hopefully get Rhona on board and change her mind with a not guilty plea. Yeah, I think he feels “I’m putting everything on the line here for you”.’
It’s clearly too good to be true, but it’s an offer Rhona considers seriously. But pleading guilty comes with its own issues. What will Rhona decide and can Gus be trusted? Zoe told us that Rhona’s gut feeling is that something is off, but she’s too desperate to care.
‘Even though perhaps, in her heart of hearts, she doesn’t really believe Gus is being truthful, she’s willing to hang everything on it,’ she said.
Marlon is also more than a little sceptical. Mark said: ‘Marlon’s only reaction to it is complete distrust, he doesn’t buy it at all’. Is Rhona being set up so that Gus can be rid of her?
