Emmerdale’s Emma Atkins concerned over ‘awful’ detail in scene – but she was surprised

EXCLUSIVE: Emmerdale actress Emma Atkins admitted she was worried about one of Charity Dingle's scenes but was pleasantly surprised after being told to watch it back

Emma Atkins was concerned about one of her Emmerdale scenes but changed her mind after watching it back.

The actress, 48, has portrayed the role of Charity Dingle since 2000. Despite more than two decades on the ITV soap, this has been one of her most turbulent years yet.

Last year Charity finally decided to settle down as she tied the knot Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) – both dressed as characters from The A-Team. Not long after the wedding, Charity discovered Mackenzie fathered a child with Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland).

They split up and Mackenzie began a relationship with Chloe. The connection between Charity and Mackenzie never faded however, and they slept together behind Chloe’s back.

Mackenzie insisted it was a mistake before finally revealing Charity was the one he wanted to be with. But Emma revealed she was worried she’d look “awful” with a wig on.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Star, Emma and Lawrence spoke about their standout moments from the past year. Emma said: “The car crash was incredible. The three of us sat in the car on the top of this cliff edge and it was so much fun. We felt privileged to be a part of something so big. It was exciting.”

“The A-Team stuff was also really cool,” Lawrence declared as Emma agreed: “I have to echo that.” She continued: “The wedding episode, I was worried that would look absolutely awful with me in a wig and being Hannibal.

“But then I got told to watch it and it was really fun.” Lawrence chimed in: “You looked so good in the wig. I looked so rubbish and you looked brilliant.”

In October, Charity, Mack and Chloe ended up in a horror car crash. After colliding with an oncoming van, their car teetered on the edge of a cliff.

Mackenzie chose to save Charity as Chloe plummeted to the ground. She survived the accident and was hellbent on making Mackenzie pay for choosing Charity.

Chloe got back in contact with her gangster father Harry, who held him hostage over Christmas. Charity ended up killing Harry in self-defence and has now been plagued with nightmares from the ordeal.

Last week Charity’s mental health spiralled even further as she began having hallucinations of Harry. Afterwards Mackenzie attempted to wake her up from a nightmare but she stabbed him, leaving him to bleed out.
