David Wicks’ response to bumping into dead EastEnders icons is everything

Poor David Wicks (Michael French) got quite the shock when he came face to face with not one but two ghosts from the past in tonight’s EastEnders.

David was last seen in Walford back in 2014 – before the return from the dead of both Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins).

So, imagine his shock when he ran into both of them in the space of half an hour.

Viewers will know that Kathy and Cindy both faked their deaths under different circumstances.

Kathy’s ‘death’ came about as part of an insurance scam orchestrated by husband Gavin, who was trying to escape loan sharks in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Cindy was placed into witness protection after informing on her cellmate as part of a plea deal, with her family being told that she was dead.

First, David bumped into ex-lover Cindy, and the shock was enough to leave him speechless.

Cindy and David have a complicated history. In the 90s, they had an affair so passionate that Cindy hired a hitman to kill Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), so that she could run off with David.

However, things didn’t quite go to plan, and David left Albert Square without her.

Given their history, David was stunned to discover that Cindy and Ian are back together – though the shocks didn’t end there.

After leaving No.45, David ran into Kathy, and he had an hilarious response.

‘Oh, not another one,’ he groaned, before adding: ‘It’s like the Walking Dead around here!’

He went on to reveal that he’d heard on the grapevine that Kathy had been ‘resurrected’, before joking that he expected Pauline Fowler (Wendy Richard) to step out of the launderette next.

During his run-in with Kathy, it didn’t take long for him to find out exactly what Cindy had been up to over the past few years, including her second family, the Knights.

However, before he could find out much more about them during his visit to the Queen Vic, Cindy interrupted, with a few home truths about how he’d left her feeling when he abandoned her in Waterloo Station in the 90s.

They were soon interrupted by Gina Knight (Francesca Henry), who pulled Cindy into the bar, where she was faced with a proposal from Ian.

As David watched on, he didn’t look best pleased – but will he try to mess things up, or leave his ghosts in the past?
