Chas Dingle was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer earlier this year and decided to undergo a double mastectomy.

But after finding out that her condition was caused by a BRCA2 gene mutation, she urged the men in her family to get tested in an attempt to figure out if they had inherited the same mutation.

If so, this would then make them more likely to develop the same type of cancer as her and Dingle matriarch Faith Dingle, who committed suicide after facing breast cancer herself.

Both Chas’ half-brothers, Caleb Miligan and Cain Dingle, were given the all-clear and she was relieved when her son Aaron Dingle (portrayed by Danny Miller) revealed he was also safe.

Little did she know that Aaron was actually tested positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation.

But while Chas (Lucy Pargeter) has no idea Aaron is lying to her, Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) is aware that he isn’t being honest and he is trying to urge the troublemaker to come clean – but the secret is due to be uncovered in upcoming scenes.

Next week on ITV, Liam desperately tries to cover the truth of Aaron’s real result in the gene test in the face of Chas’ probing questions.

As Liam hurriedly exits, Chas is deeply concerned as to what he’s implied.

When Chas asks Aaron a direct question about the gene test, he betrays the truth through the briefest glance.

Aaron’s gone straight to anger and denial as he struggles to process his emotions now that his mother knows the truth.

The hunk makes it clear to Liam that he’s crossed a line… before teaching him a harsh lesson.

In later scenes, when Chas asks a visibly injured Liam, if Aaron’s fists are to blame, the GP can’t help but acquiesce.

Liam desperately persuades Chas to stop from immediately confronting Aaron and to opt for a different tactic.

But more trouble may be coming to Liam as he shares a tender moment with Chas, only to be caught by his new love interest Ella Forster (Paula Lane).

Chas’ sensitive approach then starts to break through Aaron’s barriers until he eventually confesses that the gene test result feels like a death sentence.

When Aaron is able to open up about his fears to Chas, they both know he’s made a massive step forward.

After his devastating confession, Aaron is bolstered when his ex-stepfather Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) reminds him that he will always be there for him.

But what’s next in store for Aaron?

Could he have to face his own health ordeal?

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
