With the footage from Bill and Hayley’s wedding going mega-viral on social media, the Duprees assemble at the Fairmont Crest country club for a press conference that’s meant to smooth everything over. (Spoiler alert: it doesn’t!)

Nicole offers to speak from a psychiatric perspective, but Vernon is worried about people calling Dani crazy. (Friend, that ship sailed when she pulled the gun out of that damn hat box.)

Vernon does his best to downplay what happened at the wedding, calmly explaining, “A gun belonging to my daughter Danielle inadvertently discharged. Not a crime, just an unfortunate accident in which no one was hurt.”

Beyond The Gates

He remains his usual charming self, cutting off a reporter’s question to ask how her new baby is doing at home, but the angry group sees right through his act.

“We’ve all seen the footage,” one tells him. “It’s very evident that your daughter intentionally pulled a gun on her ex-husband and his new wife, so how about you stop spinning the truth just to protect your family?” (Rude! Accurate, but rude.)

Vernon says it’s “ridiculous” to imply that Dani was purposely trying to shoot Bill and Hayley, and just for good measure, Anita steps up the mic to call such accusations “preposterous.” Anita attempts to shift the narrative by painting Bill and Hayley as cheating, gaslighting monsters (all true!), explaining that Bill is the one who pushed Dani over the line.

“I blazed past even my own guardrails, and I want to apologize,” Dani tells the press, then apologizes to the staff and to her parents. “You’ve given me the moon since I knew how to point to it, and disappointing you is the worst punishment ever,” Dani tells Vernon and Anita. (Um, does she not know about prison?)

Bill Exposes Dani at the Press Conference

Hayley isn’t thrilled that Bill wants to attend the press conference on their wedding night, but he insists he needs to be there. (What, no live stream?) He explains that both of their reputations are on the line, but she doesn’t care.

“I just married you, Bill,” she says. “I know you love me, and that’s part of why you need to confront them, but what about how I feel? Please don’t leave me here alone.”

Women begging rarely get what they want from Bill (just ask Dani!), but he obliges in this case… sort of. Hayley asked him not to leave her alone, which he doesn’t; he brings her to the press conference as his +1, not even giving her time to change out of her wedding dress.

Bill steps up to the podium to inform the reporters that Dani exhibited “quite a few unlawful behaviors” in the video, rattling off a half-dozen crimes, including “making a terrorist threat.”

He also tells the press that Dani’s outburst at the wedding was merely the latest incident of harassment. “I have run out of patience,” he says. “This is not about me. I can handle whatever Dani Dupree dishes out, but I will not sit idly by while she bullies my wife.”

Vernon Calls for a ‘Ceasefire’ Between Dani and Bill

Dani feels understandably defeated after the press conference, but no one — least of all Vernon and Anita — expect what comes out of her mouth next: “I meant what I said about taking responsibility. Daddy, I want you to call the police.”

A uniformed officer indeed shows up to the country club, where he takes Dani’s statement and writes up an incident report. Vernon casually mentions that he’s good friends with Police Chief Hawthorne (aka Jacob’s dad) and will be sure to mention the cop’s good work the next time they play golf. Well played, gramps. Very well played.

Bill is furious with Vernon for using his connections to get Dani off, calling him “nothing more than a ruthless D.C. operator.”

But Vernon has a few more words to share with Bill: “I hope you and your new wife got what you were looking for by making this scene. Enough is enough, Bill. It’s time to declare a ceasefire with Dani so we can all just move on. This isn’t a request. I’m telling you this tit for tat needs to end.”

Dani Remembers the Good Times With Bill

And where has Dani run off to? No surprise here: She’s looking for answers… at the bottom of a martini glass.

In her drunken devastation, Dani thinks back to the good times with Bill, specifically Naomi’s wedding night. Like night and day, this is a version of Bill we’re not used to seeing. He even asked for the minister to skip the “who gives this woman to this man” part of the ceremony, because he… respects women? Yeah, this is definitely not the Bill we’re used to.

He’s even less recognizable as he thanks Dani for all of the sacrifices she’s made to raise their family. She says she doesn’t regret a single one, asking, “What fun would my life be if you weren’t in it?”

And how’s this for dramatic irony: Bill promises Dani that the next chapter of their lives together will the best one yet. “Do you promise to be with me forever, again?” he asks. She says she does, then turns the question back on him. “Beyond forever is how long I promise to love you, Dani,” he says. “I promise.”

Derek Is No Fan of Andre

Over at Garland Memorial, Ashley is struggling to process how she could have possibly delivered a baby in her first week working at the hospital. She also can’t thank Andre enough for being a “great partner,” which doesn’t sit well with Derek, who’s probably still very hungry after being stood up for dinner.

The woman even names her baby Ashley Andrea as a way of honoring the duo that helped with the delivery. Again, Derek? Not thrilled.

He does get a slight ego boost when Ashley plants a big ol’ kiss on him in front of Andre, but it’s short-lived. When Derek implies that Andre won’t have a reason to keep visiting the hospital, nosey nurse Shanice is more than happy to set him straight, explaining the myriad ways Andre is connected to Garland Memorial.

Things begin to look up for Derek when he brings Ashley home… until Andre’s name comes up in Ashley’s list of the close friends she’s thankful for.

Dani and Andre, Round 2

Maybe Derek would feel better about the whole Ashley/Andre situation if he knew that Dani was stopping by Andre’s place for a much-needed booty call — or as Dani describes it, “celebrating or exorcising demons — maybe a bit of both.”

Andre says he thought he was just a one-night stand, to which Dani replies, “Can’t a woman change her mind?” But he isn’t in the mood for small talk. He’s worried about her. Sure, he’s “attracted to danger,” but he also tells her that she needs to get her wild side under control. She promises to try “…even if it kills me.”
