Emmerdale villain Joe Tate received his comeuppance as he was pushed out of the bedroom window at Home Farm in the ITV soaps latest “whodunnit”.

Actor Ned Porteous returned to the Dales last year in order to reprise his role. While it appeared as though he arrived as part of Will Taylor’s revenge plan for Kim Tate, his real intentions were yet to be uncovered.

While viewers watched as he collapsed a few times surrounded by pills, it was hard not to be suspicious of what Joe’s mystery illness could be.

As he collapsed at the stairs of Home Farm, the mysterious Dr. Crowley saved him. From there, we found out that Joe had chronic kidney disease and was in desperate need of a kidney.

With a family member having a higher likelihood of being a match, Joe targeted Noah. After trying bribe him with gifts and a new job in Dubai, he decided to have his half-brother kidnapped and spiked.

However, Noah wasn’t a match and was left out on the road under the influence of the drugs Joe had given him. It was then that the Valentine’s crash happened, causing three people to d.i.e.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Ned shared the reaction he’s received from fans, as he said: “People are quite nice, fans of the show are quite lovely, they’re intense but they all seem to be enjoying it and that’s the whole point.”

He then added that people are very protective over Jack Downham, as he recalled them saying “stay away from our Noah”.

After targeting Caleb and successfully stealing his kidney, Charity learning that Joe did in fact spike Noah, and Billy finding out about his affair with Dawn, it’s safe to say he isn’t short of enemies.

During Thursday’s (May 8) hour-long instalment, Joe Tate was surrounded by said enemies at Lydia’s Home Farm surprise party.

The police then showed up to question him over Noah’s spiking – as he had reported Joe after finding out the truth from Charity.

It was then that everyone at the party realised he was responsible for the three limo deaths, and Dawn heard what her new partner was really like.

The episode finished with Joe Tate lying on the ground, pushed out of the window by one of the nine suspects.

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw teased: “A lot of daggers drawn and a lot of people looking at Joe Tate and want him d.e.a.d. One person will definitely be getting their revenge on Joe Tate, will they succeed on their m.u.r.d.e.r.o.u.s act? We’ll have to wait and see.”

She then referenced the ‘who k.i.l.l.e.d Tom King’ storyline in 2006 as she revealed: “There’s going to be a little bit of a homage in here… couple of little easter eggs on that.”

Tom King’s death was one of the biggest “whodunnit” storylines in Emmerdale, with a list of suspects and several potential endings. He was also pushed from an upstairs window at Home Farm as he was getting ready for his wedding to Rosemary Sinclair.

It was later revealed that his son Carl King m.u.r.d.e.r.e.d him after hitting him over the head and then pushing him out of the window.

Will Joe suffer the same fate and be a goner, or will he survive and seek revenge?

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
