An unsuspecting EastEnders icon has finally uncovered the weapon that was used to attack Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) on Christmas Day – and it doesn’t look good for him.

Cindy was hit over the head with a shovel after her affair with Junior Knight (Micah Balfour) was exposed, and left for d.e.a.d in the snow.

Thankfully, she has since made a full recovery, but the hunt is still on for her attacker.

In tonight’s episode, Gina Knight (Francesca Henry) revealed her suspicions that Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) may have had more to do with Cindy’s attack than he was letting on.

As she pointed out that hitting people over the head seems to run in the family, sister Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) explained to George Knight (Colin Salmon) how Ian had been involved in Denny’s d.e.a.t.h in 2020.

With Cindy now living back under Ian’s roof, the girls expressed their concerns that Ian may be twisting things and accusing one of the Knights of attacking her.

As Anna feared for Cindy’s safety, George promised to pay her a visit to check on her.

With Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) on hand to distract Ian, George headed over, where he revealed to Cindy that he suspected Ian was behind the attack.

Unbeknown to George, Ian had caught on to Elaine’s ruse and returned home, where he’d witnessed George’s accusations.

He was quick to turn the tables, suggesting that, because George had been the one to find her after the attack, and the fact that he was angry after learning about her affair with Junior, he must have been the one to attack her.

As Ian goaded him about his temper, George lashed out, pinning Ian against the wall, before Cindy stepped in to stop him going any further.

After George had left, Cindy packed her bags, and told Ian that she would be finding somewhere else to stay.

Ian assured her she didn’t have to, before once again suggesting that George was her attacker.

At the Vic, George then made a discovery that only put him further in the frame.

After throwing a bottle in his frustration, George moved a barrel to clear up the broken glass, only to find several patches of blood on the ground.

Also there, tucked behind a barrel, was the shovel that had been used to attack Cindy, with her blood still on it.

As Elaine came to investigate what George was looking at, the pair shared a horrified glance.

Is one of the Knights responsible for attacking Cindy after all, or have they been framed?
