Baby drama confirmed in Emmerdale as Amy wants a child – but Matty’s reaction shocks her
Emmerdale’s Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) and Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) have been married less than a year, are they already headed for the rocks?
It’s usually a good idea to give a spouse a heads up you want a family before your wedding day, but for Matty and Amy, who married in April 2024, it appears to have been a big conversation they left off the list.
The couple have seemingly been stronger than ever and are one of the village’s most gorgeous couples, but a day of Amy simply being helpful puts their relationship under massive strain.
Amy offers to look after Frankie for Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) and surprises herself by coming over all broody. She’s never felt like this before, or at least not for a long time, so it takes her by surprise.
She confides in Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) this sudden wave of emotions she’s feeling, and Moira is just as taken aback.
But she urges Amy to tell Matty how she really feels.
Matty – her actual husband – is another one in this scenario who had absolutely no idea Amy wanted more kids. So, when she tells him she’d like them to adopt a child and become parents together, he’s blindsided.
‘I think this all happens very fast for Amy, it happens there and then. She’s like, “Oh my goodness, this is what I want, and I want it with Matty.” Obviously she loves Kyle and Kyle is her everything’, star Natalie Ann Jamieson said.
‘She’s always regretted not being there when he was little. I think if she could have that opportunity again to be there for somebody and do it properly, I think that would be amazing for Amy. Frankie ultimately is just too cute and sets her ovaries off and she just wants it there and then!’
In fact, Matty is utterly flabbergasted and sent spiralling into shock. Out of his mind with disbelief, he halts the conversation, seemingly calling an end to Amy’s dreams.
Amy is left feeling awful for catching him so off guard and begins to worry what she’s done to their relationship. But it may be too late.
It seems like a giant crack is showing now that they’ve realised that they’re not on the same page.
Is this the beginning of the end for Matty and Amy? Or with all the exits and death going on, is Emmerdale set to get a pitter patter of tiny feet?
‘They’re supposed to be saving their money to buy a house, but instead she’s spoken to Kim and she’s renting a house instead because she wants it now, she wants it immediately, so she’s put this plan into action’, Natalie added.
‘That’s a surprise to Matty because as far as he knew their long-term plan was to save up to buy a house. She’s gone ahead and put this plan into place – I don’t think she’s gone as far as signing on the dotted line but there’s a verbal agreement. She walks him into the house and goes, “what do you think? I think it’s brilliant and, by the way, shall we have a baby?” It’s quite extra!’.
