BBC Beyond Paradise pays tribute to Neville Parker in Humphrey Goodman scene after exit
The final episode of Beyond Paradise will air on Friday
Fans of Beyond Paradise have noticed a subtle tribute to Death in Paradise detective Neville Parker, portrayed by Ralf Little, in the latest episode of the spin-off.
The series is set to conclude on Friday, and viewers are keen to see how the narrative involving Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) will unfold.
In the most recent episode, the detective found himself in a tricky situation while skydiving. He was supposed to accompany Martha’s mother, Anne (Barbara Flynn), but she was informed at the last moment that she couldn’t participate due to a past injury.
However, true to his character, Humphrey didn’t land where he was supposed to. Instead, he accidentally knocked out his skydiving instructor and ended up hanging from a bridge by his parachute.
During this scene, an observant fan spotted a reference to former detective Neville Parker, reports the Express.
One viewer queried on a Facebook fan page: “Was it me or was there a little nod to Neville Parker and his utter fear of skydiving with Humphrey taking on the task?”
Another fan concurred: “Yes, partly that and partly just Humphrey being Humphrey. Remember the first time he met Esther? Stuck up that tree.”
A third fan humorously added: “Hanging off Tamar Bridge.”
Ralf Little, who played Neville Parker in Death in Paradise, left the show last year and was replaced by Don Gilet as the new DI, Mervin Wilson. Fans will recall that Neville had a fear of everything on the island and would only eat chicken and chips.
The conclusion of series three of Beyond Paradise remains uncertain, but the synopsis for Friday’s episode states: “When nurse Lucy vanishes on her way to work, suspicion falls on Josh Woods – Kelby’s rival.
“However, after Josh receives a chilling voicemail, the team starts to suspect that something far more sinister is at play. In the recording, Lucy can be heard shouting ‘devil” followed by a beastly growl.
“Could the legend of the Devil’s Hump hold a vital clue to solving her disappearance? As the case intensifies, Humphrey finds himself torn between the personal and professional. With Rosie’s birthday fast approaching, he and Martha are determined to throw her the perfect party.”
Beyond Paradise returns on Friday at 8pm on BBC One.
