BBC Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise exit ‘sealed’ as Don Warrington’s replacement revealed in first-look
Friday night's instalment of Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise saw Selwyn Patterson confirm when he would be leaving the island of Saint Marie and fans were also given a first-look at his replacement
In the recent episode of Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise, the much-admired Commissioner, portrayed by Don Warrington, disclosed his upcoming departure from the Saint Marie police force.
The drama unfolded on Friday’s show when Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine) endeavoured to safeguard his position, but Selwyn conceded and divulged his impending replacement, stating he’d be leaving “within a week”.
A sneak peek at the next episode hinted at the introduction of the new Commissioner. Catherine stumbled upon Selwyn organising his belongings in his office and expressed her surprise, “What on earth is all of this?”
His response was firm: “I am getting things in order before I leave. I just need this case solved first,” reports the Mirror.
Catherine then revealed the petition to keep him had gained immense support with more than 10,000 signatures. She persuaded him by saying, ” Now is the time to act. We are going to Kingston to meet with the Chief Commissioner. He needs to realise the whole island is behind you.”
Despite this, the Commissioner vented his frustration: “I have already spoken to him at length,” and asserted his refusal to grovel for retention, “I am not going to beg for my job.”
“Fine, then don’t,” was Catherine’s cool reply, followed by a determined stance, “But I will.”
Even though Selwyn acknowledged her effort as touching, he critiqued her approach: “But right now, you are letting emotion cloud your judgement.”
He persisted: “How many times do I have to say it? This will be embarrassing for both of us.”
At the conclusion of the episode, a preview for the upcoming week’s show gave viewers a sneak peek at who will be taking over from Selwyn.
As the new arrival approaches Saint Marie, Catherine’s voice is heard: “Has Selwyn told you what is happening tomorrow? The person taking over from him arrives.”
With the news of Selwyn’s position being phased out, fans are hoping that a beloved former detective might return to rescue his role.
One fan expressed their wish, saying: “Humphrey was my favourite. He could come back to save Selwyn’s job,”.
Echoing the sentiment, another viewer called for Humphrey’s return: “Bring back Humphrey.”
And a third shared their fondness for the cast, adding: “I like all of the characters, especially Selwyn, I do miss Kris Marshall.”
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise returns next Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
