BBC Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise fans say it ‘feels wrong’ as show ‘breaks tradition’
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise fans were left confused as the popular BBC show broke a series tradition on Friday night
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise viewers were quick to complain as the show underwent a format shake-up on Friday night.
During the latest episode, a distillery owner was poisoned during a group tasting of his premium rum. However, the case became more complicated when it was revealed that all the guests drank from the same bottle.
This begged the question of how the k.i.l.l.e.r managed to ensure only the victim would wind up dead as Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson and the team dug deep into the past, uncovering secrets that the suspects had gone to great lengths to bury, in order to get to the bottom of the case.
At the end of the episode, the culprit was finally revealed in a twist viewers didn’t see coming. However, show watchers were left confused over the reveal as they complained the programme had broken tradition.

Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: “I don’t like they have broke tradition here in not gathering the suspects…….how dare they #deathinparadise”, a different account put: “#deathinparadise This is the first time they haven’t got all the suspects together to reveal the m.u.r.d.e.r.e.r”, another wrote: “I don’t like the rest of the suspects not being there, feels wrong hahaha #DeathInParadise” while a different viewer added: “This better not become the norm, it just ruins the tradition of the show. #deathinparadise.”
Elsewhere, another viewer put: “the suspects weren’t gathered together #DeathInParadise”, another wrote: “Why couldn’t they get all of the suspects together before releasing all….. #DeathInParadise” while a different show watcher commented: “The first time all the suspects are not together! #DeathInParadise”.
The hit BBC One detective series returned earlier this year with a new Detective Inspector in place as DI Mervin Wilson, played by Don Gilet, got to work.

Viewers were first introduced to Mervin in the hit BBC show’s Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise Christmas special, where he travelled to the Caribbean to meet his mother for the first time, which in true show style, sadly didn’t work out as he had planned as he learnt his estranged mother had passed away.
It comes as Ralf Little departed his role as Neville Parker in Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise last year. The detective decided he needed to go travelling and explore the world. Now, it’s time for a new detective with Mervin leading the show.
