BBC Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise return ‘sealed’ as Selwyn Patterson to reunite with detective in spin-off
Some Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise fans are convinced that Selwyn Patterson will reunite with Humphrey Goodman in Beyond Paradise after his heartbreaking exit
Fans of the popular show Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise are speculating that characters Selwyn Patterson (portrayed by Don Warrington) and Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) could reunite in the spin-off series Beyond Paradise.
In a recent episode, viewers were left heartbroken as Commissioner Selwyn decided to leave Saint Marie despite being offered his job back. This has led some fans to theorise that he may visit former colleague Humphrey in the UK.
Humphrey had previously left his role as the island’s lead detective to pursue a relationship with Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton), relocating to Shipton Abbott in Devon to start a new life together. Their love story continues in the Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise spin-off, Beyond Paradise.
One fan shared their theory on a Facebook fan page, suggesting: “If Selwyn is going to see his daughter, could we have an episode of two where he is in Devon?”
“Imagine if he became the love interest for a couple of episodes to Martha’s mother. Think it would make for some great Humphrey moments,” reports the Express.
Another added: “Selwyn the man meeting Selwyn the duck….yes. That would be a memorable episode or two,” while a third commented: “It would be worth it just to see his expression when he realises the duck is named after him.”
Another viewer chimed in: “Confusion with Selwyn the duck. I love the idea that Selwyn has a testimonial season, it would be very well deserved.”
One enthusiast beseeched the shows creators saying, “Wow, fantastic idea, scriptwriters, please take note of viewers’ wishes.”
Throughout its run, Saint Marie has bid farewell and welcomed back numerous cherished characters.
In the opening season of Beyond Paradise, fans were treated to Humphrey’s return to the Caribbean, crossing paths with his forerunner Neville Parker (Ralf Little) and reconnecting with familiar faces including the Commissioner.
DI Jack Mooney, portrayed by Ardal O’Hanlon, also graced screens in the recent spin-off Return to Paradise, situated in Australia, and introduced the first female lead sleuth of the series.
Beyond Paradise airs on Friday at 8pm on BBC One.
