BBC’s D.e.a.t.h in Paradise had fans reeling in dismay during the latest episode when it was revealed that Commissioner Selwyn Patterson’s position was on its way out.

Viewers of the beloved show were hit with a bombshell on Friday night (February 14), as Selwyn, brought to life by actor Don Warrington, disclosed his impending redundancy.

Sparking concern at the start with his heightened stress levels, the Commissioner left audiences puzzled with his icy demeanour towards some workmates. The puzzle pieces fell into place towards the climax of the episode when Selwyn bared the truth about his future to his colleagues.

He confided: “I’ve been keeping something from you which on the advice of my trusted friend, I have decided to share with you all,” reports the Express.

“The position of Saint Marie police commissioner is being phased out. I’m being phased out,” the character declared. Fans were quick to voice their sorrow over Selwyn’s departure online, taking to Twitter to express their feelings.

One heartbroken viewer tweeted: “My heart is breaking for Selwyn. He’s devastated.” Another insisted: “Don’t try it #DeathInParadise. There’s no way we’re going to let Selwyn go.”

A worried third said, “I’m getting so worried for Selwyn. I’m sure they’ll end up saving his job at the last minute but seeing him like this is upsetting. I need someone to go to the HQ in Jamaica and do something.” And a fourth pleaded: “Don’t write Selwyn out show wouldn’t be the same without Commissioner Patterson.”

While the producers of D.e.a.t.h in Paradise have yet to officially comment on the future of Selwyn at Saint Marie, betting experts are speculating on potential replacements.

Actor Danny John-Jules, famed for his role as Officer Dwayne Myers and last seen in the 2024 Christmas special, is being touted for a return and could fill Selwyn’s shoes.

Don Warrington has been a staple of the D.e.a.t.h In Paradise cast since the series’ inception in 2011.
