In scenes airing last week, Cindy and Lauren were stunned when a brick came smashing through the window. Whilst Lauren raced over to try and find out who had thrown the brick, Cindy was left horrified by the attached note.

It simply read: “You should have stayed dead. Now I’m coming for you,” with fans convinced this could even link back to Cindy’s death being faked by witness protection when she was in prison decades ago.

Tonight, Cindy was left struggling with all that has gone on – before she ran into the arms of her partner Ian Beale. Of course, fans know that Cindy has been having an affair with Junior behind her husband Ian’s back.

As they spoke to each other this evening, Ian made a vow to Cindy, telling her he’d “always protect” her. However, fans are sure his smirk as he held her could prove that he has something more to do with the attack on Cindy.

One wrote: “Ian wants Cindy under his thumb.. he’s definitely behind this campaign #Eastenders,” whilst a second added: “That smirk from Ian here was creepy. What is he up to? Cindy needs to watch her back! Could Ian be Cindy’s attacker? Or is it just a red herring?”

“That’s Ian’s revenge scaring Cindy #eastenders,” a third wrote, as a fourth added: “Ian keeping Cindy close so soon. Hmm… #EastEnders.” A fifth penned: “Ian has got her right where he wants. Looking like revenge, definitely got Ian all over Cindy’s attacker.”

Ahead of the Christmas episode, Cindy star Michelle Collins teased the Cindy everyone knew and loved was back.

She said: “It’s kind of strange, because when I first came back people kept on saying, ‘When is Cindy going to be bad again?’, and it’s almost like people’s expectations of Cindy are that Cindy is always going to be up to no good.

“That she’ll be up to her old antics, and that a leopard never changes its spots. I must admit, it’s every actor’s dream, I think, to play a character like Cindy where even I never know what she is going to be doing from one moment to the next. I read the scripts and sometimes I go, ‘Oh gosh, what is she up to now?’ So, it didn’t surprise me when I found out about the affair.”
