BBC EastEnders vote lets slip major Sonia spoiler ahead of Natalie Cassidy exit
The BBC have announced a second vote for the live EastEnders episode that fans believe reveals a major Sonia spoiler following her going into labour during the Queen Vic fire
The celebrations for the 40th anniversary of EastEnders continue with the live episode tomorrow, but fans have spotted a major Sonia spoiler connected to the upcoming public vote.
There are now two votes for viewers to take part in that close at 7.10pm on Thursday 20 February, with the results revealed in the live episode. The first is to decide whether Denise should choose Ravi or Jack, and the second lets fans choose the name of Sonia’s baby daughter – either Julia or Toni, to commemorate the two creators of EastEnders, Julia Smith and Tony Holland. However, many fans have taken the baby name vote as a hint about Sonia’s fate.
Sonia was last seen trapped in the Vic, in labour, with Bianca and Lauren by her side. Her k.i.l.l.e.r fiance, Reiss, found them, but Sonia refused to let him near her, and shouted: “You are a freak, Reiss. You are a m.u.r.d.e.r.i.n.g freak. You’re not going to be any part of my daughter’s life.” Bianca waved a rolling pin at him to push him away, and he fell backwards. After a small piece of rubble fell on Reiss, he thought he was safe, but then a massive bath tub then came crashing down, crushing him. Bianca confirmed he was d.e.a.d after a look at his smashed body.

While Sonia struggled in labour, she told Bianca that she wanted to name her daughter either Julia or Toni (“with an i”). Following the episode, the BBC posted the question “What should Sonia name her baby?” with a link to vote, and fans took that as a sign that Sonia may be alive long enough to name her child.
“Sonia stays alive long enough to give her baby a name then!!” guessed one fan, in the knowledge that Sonia may not make it much longer as Natalie Cassidy, who plays her, has already confirmed she is leaving the soap. “Sonia has the baby and is ok!” added another. “I think Sonia and Bianca will be with the baby and when the Vic is rebuilt they will both leave and rent Dot’s house to Lauren to keep it in the faammmlee,” was the detailed prediction of one viewer.
Some fans have pointed out that naming the baby Toni does have its problems, as Bianca’s ex and Whitney’s abuser was called Tony. “She can’t call her Toni, as if she would name her child after her sister’s creepy ex who abused her niece,” wrote one viewer. Another agreed: “Obviously get the sentiment but it’s a bit shite for Whitney if Sonia ends up making her baby have the same name her abuser had.”
One viewer saw the funny side of the baby naming vote, however. “Cannot believe they’re doing a vote on Sonia’s baby name. My write in vote for Baby McBabyface doesn’t seem to have been accepted.”
