The BBC has confirmed that Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise will return for its 15th series as filming is now underway The previous series concluded with DI Mervin Wilson deciding to remain on the island after discovering he had a brother.

However, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (played by Don Warrington) chose to leave the police force and travel, leading to speculation about his return in the upcoming series, reports the Mirror. The confirmation of the new series was made via the Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise social media account, which posted: “We’re back in paradise! Filming has begun this week in Guadeloupe on the brand-new series of #DeathInParadise.”

Fans quickly filled the comments section with their excitement, but some expressed concern over whether Selwyn would be returning. One fan wrote: “Selwyn better be staying, the show needs his presence!” Others echoed this sentiment, with one saying: “Needs @donbwarrington to be there or missing a huge talent!”

At the start of the last series, Selwyn was informed his role was no longer viable and he was being replaced. Although he was later offered his job back, he ultimately decided to embark on his travels instead,

When asked about how his character, Selwyn, dealt with certain news, actor Don said: “Not well. It’s shocking for him, and he does his best to get the superiors to change their decision and see things differently… It’s very interesting because we discover other aspects of Selwyn and that’s always the joy about playing a character like him – there are so many different sides to him. You think you know about somebody but due to life events, you learn more about them. He’s opening up, he’s a bit like a flower coming in to bloom.”

The storyline also saw Selwyn having key interactions with Mervin as they joined forces to uncover the truth about his mother’s fate. Discussing the impact this had on Mervin’s character, Don said: “It was a very emotional journey for Mervin because he’s discovering things that will turn his life upside down whether he likes it or not. It called for a kind of delicacy from Selwyn because he recognises how this situation may be traumatic for Mervin.”

DI Mervin Wilson, portrayed by Don Gilet, is set to return as the lead detective following DI Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little) making an exit from the show in the last series to venture on travels and reunite with Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert).
