Sam and Lydia Dingle (James Hooton and Karen Blick) have a huge disagreement in upcoming Emmerdale scenes, that could threaten their marriage going forward.

Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) is currently in prison, after accidentally stabbing Samson Dingle (Sam Hall). Knowing that Matty was carrying a knife, Samson’s friend Josh (Osian Morgan) pushed him into him, resulting in the serious injury.

However, Samson and Josh have backed up each other’s stories, which has left Matty in a dangerous position in prison.

Desperate to get her son to safety, Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) begged Samson to come clean – though instead he reported her for kidnapping him.

Though Sam is completely behind his son, Lydia has started having doubts of her own, especially after a chat with Moira, as actress Karen Blick explained.

‘There’s a scene where Samson’s released from the police station and she starts to have these niggles, these concerns and she has a conversation with Moira in the village outside and Moira is basically pleading with her: “You know the truth. You need to get Samson to admit it.”

‘And that’s when she questions it and says, “Is what Matty says the truth?” She lays it out on the table. She says, “I love you, I believed you, I fought your corner every step of the way, but this is serious.”

‘She’s aware that Matty’s been beaten up in prison. Or she’s aware that he constructed that himself in order to get out of the situation he was in and when he goes back to prison he will be attacked.

‘She’s worried, really. It’s that wanting to protect, care for, do the right thing. In the same way as Sam does – they just go about it in very different ways.’

In a new spoiler video, it becomes clear exactly how Sam plans to deal with the situation – and that’s helping Samson get as far away from the village as possible.

Sam reveals that he has booked Samson a ferry, and even admits that he plans to pawn his wedding ring from Samson’s mum Alice, though Samson insists that he shouldn’t.

Unfortunately for them, before their plan can take affect, Lydia arrives, and her disappointment is clear.

With Sam and Lydia having such different ideas of how to deal with Samson’s behaviour, will their marriage survive?

‘It’s a knee-jerk reaction I think, from Sam’s point of view,’ Karen admits. ‘He feels initially betrayed by the fact that Lydia’s made him do the right thing, which is confess that things weren’t as they were originally told to be.

‘Words are said and Sam says things along the line of, “I’ll never forgive you for this.” But eventually it’ll be water under the bridge.

‘Sam hasn’t got the most advanced brain even among the Dingle fraternity, but once he manages to get his brain into gear I think he realises that she has made Samson do the right thing. Sam’s only thinking short term, what’s best in his mind for his son to not end up in jail.

‘Many years ago Sam did the same thing and ran away from taking responsibility for his actions, so he sees it as the way to do things. Essentially he realises, Lydia’s got this covered and she’s got Samson to do the right thing. I think they will be fine over time.’
