Bernie Taylor, played by Claire Norris, has been noticeably absent from the heart of the Walford drama in recent months. Her lack of screen time left many viewers worried about her fate and future on the show.
But now, an official post from EastEnders’ Instagram account has confirmed what fans were hoping for — Bernie is still very much part of the BBC One soap!
In the post, Claire Norris is pictured alongside co-star Shiv Jalota, who plays Vinny Panesar. The caption reads: “These two just hanging out at the Panisars,” accompanied by a cheerful snap of the duo smiling for the camera.
Fans flooded the comments with messages of joy and relief. One fan wrote, “Oh, love Bernie. More scenes of her gossiping in the café, please!” Another added, “I love this. I’m really hoping we get some Bernie scenes with the Panesar family unit.”
Bernie was last seen on-screen on March 24th, following another brief appearance in the live episode marking EastEnders’ 40th anniversary on February 20th. Prior to that, she had been missing from episodes for nearly a month.
Her absence comes after a huge storyline last year, when Bernie uncovered the shocking truth behind her brother Keanu Taylor’s tragic end.
Viewers will remember that Keanu was k.i.l.l.e.d by Linda Carter on Christmas Day 2023. Linda stepped in to protect her best friend Sharon Watts, and with the help of four other women — forming the group fans now know as “The Six” — they covered up Keanu’s d.e.a.t.h.
In a chilling twist, the group buried his body in the café where Bernie worked.
Eventually, Bernie put the pieces together and realised that The Six were responsible for her brother’s demise. Despite the horror of what she uncovered, Bernie chose to remain silent — keeping the secret buried along with Keanu.
Her quiet loyalty left a lasting impression on fans, and many have been hoping for her return ever since.
