Beyond Paradise’s Kris Marshall had to let stunning Cornwall home go
Kris Marshall loved his converted chapel

Kris Marshall, star of Beyond Paradise, had a deep affection for his Grade-II listed home in Cornwall and even undertook “a lot of work” on the property. Ultimately, he had to let it go, although he was reluctant.
Kris, who is widely recognised for his role as DI Humphrey Goodman in the BBC series and its spin-off show D.e.a.t.h in Paradise, was the owner of a converted chapel known as Kirk House.
In an interview with The Times, Kris revealed that the property was initially “converted into a wow-factor holiday let” at the time of purchase. He further transformed it into a full-time holiday let, which he managed for a decade.
Unfortunately, it became “impractical” to continue renting out the house due to his frequent travels to the Caribbean for filming.
He expressed: “I still love Cornwall, especially when the sun is out, but there’s give and take when you do holiday lets. We can’t just bolt down there as a family, and I don’t want to run the business any more. I’m quite busy and it’s impractical to do it from the Caribbean – it’s just too far”, reports the Express.
Constructed originally in the 1850s, Kirk House boasted an open-plan living room, vaulted cellars, a secluded courtyard outside, five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and an outbuilding. It is situated in Polperro, Cornwall – a charming fishing village complete with a working harbour and even a smugglers’ cave.
Kris, who had previously visited Polperro at the age of 18 and was charmed by its Cornish allure and quaintness, recalled: “I had been to Polperro when I was 18, and liked the Cornishness and cutesiness of it. Then I walked into the house, with its vaulted ceilings and big beams, and I went, ‘Wow, it’s amazing.'”.
After spending four “wonderful” years abroad, Kris was eager to return to Cornwall but sparked controversy when he remarked that his son was becoming “a bit too Caribbean”. He subsequently apologised for what he described as a “naive use of words”.
Now settled in Bath, his birthplace, alongside his family, Kris shared with ITV: “I am a West Country boy so anything that keeps me rooted in the West Country is great.”
