Christmas Comes Early: Release Date Confirmed for Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise Special with Fresh Detective at the Helm
The Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise Christmas special will introduce Don Gilet as the new lead detective on the island of Saint Marie, with the release date now confirmed
The release date for the Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise Christmas special has been officially announced. Fans of the popular BBC series can look forward to tuning in in late December, when Don Gilet will make his first appearance as the new lead detective.
Stepping into the role of DI Mervin Wilson, he takes the reins of Saint Marie’s police force after the departure of DI Neville Parker, portrayed by Ralf Little, at the close of season 13.
There isn’t a lengthy wait ahead for viewers eager to watch the dawn of DI Wilson. The Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise Christmas special is scheduled to air on Sunday 22 December on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 8.30pm.
Following on from the recently concluded new spin-off Return to Paradise, the festive edition comes alongside the other spin-off, Beyond Paradise, which will also broadcast a Christmas special this year.

Don’s casting was announced earlier this year after Ralf confirmed he’d be leaving the BBC series. It’s been teased that newcomer Mervin “isn’t overly pleased with his new surroundings” when he arrives on Saint Marie.
Meanwhile, ex-EastEnders star Don said of his new role: “Being offered the new lead role in Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands.”
“This is a big show with a big heart, and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated.”
