Coronation Street and Emmerdale set for historic cross-over episode with ‘high-stakes drama’

Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set to release a historic cross-over episode one-off special episode to launch the broadcaster’s new power hour of soap

Soap fans will be overjoyed as Coronation Street and Emmerdale have just announced a historic cross-over episode one-off special episode to launch the broadcaster’s new power hour of soap in January 2026.

For the first time in British soap history, the hour-long episode will see characters from both soaps come together in a celebration of the soap genre.

It’s set to be a highly dramatic episode, as ITV teases that the combined production teams will embark on an ambitious stunt that will have everlasting consequences for everyone involved.

The episode will be self-contained, but the consequences of the high-stakes drama will have repercussions for both communities and see them linked forever as familiar faces depart and exciting new characters arrive into both soaps.

Afterwards, the soaps will both return to their new normal pattern of transmission. Earlier this year, it was announced that each soap will be on for 30 minutes each evening.

But that’s not all. Fans will be even more thrilled to learn that they’ll be able to have their say in the outcome of the soap, as ITV announced they’ll be able to choose one character from each soap who they would like to see meet, and interact, in a scene.

Details of this initiative are set to be released next month via both soaps Insta, Facebook and TikTok accounts.

Both soaps are currently airing huge, and devastating storylines. In Coronation Street, spoilers show that Craig Tinker is caught up in an incident that leaves him fighting for his life.

As his life hangs in the balance, shown bloodied and beaten, he’s rushed to hospital. His loved ones and pals pray for his recovery, and soon his former stepfather Kirk Sutherland is making an emotional phone call to Craig’s mum Beth Tinker.

Meanwhile, over in the Dales, it was revealed that Dawn was the one who pushed Joe Tate. No one else is yet to find out about the crime, and the secret could rumble on for months.

On Monday night, Dawn’s confession came without a flashback or explanation, with a cliffhanger simply exposing Dawn’s guilt.

With the two coming together for the first time in history, who knows what level of drama could unfold…
