Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise ‘confirms’ Selwyn Patterson’s future in first look at finale

The BBC One crime drama is set to air its season 14 finale later this week and it looks like Selwyn Patterson will be faced with a big decision

The conclusion of Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise approaches, and viewers eagerly await the final episode of season 14, which is due to be broadcast on Friday, 28 March.

This season marked the entrance of DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet), who took over from DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little), and has been packed with captivating developments, including Mervin uncovering realities about his mother’s demise and his own adoption.

Meanwhile, fixture Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) faced adversity after being notified that his tenure at the Honore Police Department was ending after a remarkable 50 years.

The surprising decision left Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine) aghast, leading her to protest: “But they can’t do this?” only for a disheartened Selwyn to respond: “It seems they can and they have. It seems it comes back to one thing: to save money.”

Unwilling to give up without a fight, Catherine and Selwyn spearheaded an online campaign to reverse the decision, but even with thousands rallying behind them, the chief commissioner remained unmoved.

To add further defeat, Selwyn’s anticipated replacement, Sterling Fox (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge), appeared.

Nonetheless, Selwyn’s unwavering dedication, particularly his efforts solving the murder of Mervin’s late mother, proved instrumental in highlighting his indispensable role within the department, reports the Mirror.

Intrigue spikes as a sneak peek into the finale teases that Selwyn is ultimately allowed to reclaim his post. However, whether he will resume his duties or reject the offer remains uncertain.

First-look images from the Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise finale have been released. One snapshot shows Catherine poised to congratulate Selwyn. Another captures a moment when the pair seem ready to share an embrace under Mervin’s watchful eye.

Eager fans will finally see Selwyn’s decision in the much-anticipated finale, which was delayed due to this year’s Comic Relief taking its slot on Friday, 21 March on BBC One.

The official synopsis for the final episode reveals: “Mervin is about to fly home but finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation when a body is discovered in his shack. As Mervin professes his innocence, the team can’t work out how the victim ended up inside a locked building with no sign of forced entry.

“The woman’s identity remains elusive until they discover she was volunteering at a local turtle conservation charity, and suspicion falls on her colleagues.

“Meanwhile, Selwyn grapples with his most difficult decision yet when he delivers some personal news to Mervin that turns everything on its head.”

Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise airs on Friday, 28 March on BBC One at 8pm
