Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise newcomer Shaquille Ali-Yebuah has spilled the beans about Selwyn Patterson’s (played by Don Warrington) potential exit, as viewers fear he might be departing from Saint Marie. This week’s teaser gave a sneak peek at Selwyn’s possible replacement, Sterling Fox, portrayed by Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge.

While the Commissioner’s destiny on the island remains up in the air, Shaquille, who portrays Officer Seb Rose, hinted at emotional turmoil and a rollercoaster journey ahead in the series.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he revealed: “Don Warrington is the heart of the show from season one to season 14. 14 Seasons, he’s been there from the beginning. Even when there were new detectives, he just stayed there, and he’s like the foundation.”

The intrigue around Selwyn’s potential replacement grows as Shaquille offers some insight: “The character is played by Trieve Blackwood Cambridge, who’s a very good actor, very cool guy, we got to meet and bond on set.

“It’s almost like seeing the past and the future in terms of a young commission and an older Commissioner, and just that dynamic, but that episode the fans are going to love. It’s going to be interesting.”

Predicting a tumultuous path for the show, he said: “There’s going to be ups and downs, there’s going to be surprises, there’s going to be shocks, there’s going to be heartbreak. There is so much, and it just gets better. Every episode gets better.”

A sneak peek from this week’s episode reveals a hint of Selwyn’s successor. The clue is dropped when Catherine intriguingly asks, “Has Selwyn told you what is happening tomorrow? The person taking over from him arrives.”

The summary for Friday’s instalment states: “Mervin and the team delve into the murky world of online dating as they investigate the murder of a man in his villa. He was awaiting a woman he had connected with on an app when their video call was abruptly interrupted by an intruder.

“However, Mervin is baffled by the discovery of a bullet in the victim’s hand. In the meantime, a new colleague makes a memorable entrance for all the wrong reasons, and Mervin doggedly reopens his mother’s case, drawing the attention of a dubious character.”
