Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise exit ‘sealed’ for Selwyn Patterson after 13 years as fan favourite returns
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise fans have expressed concern that a major character could be leaving the show after a returning character dropped a huge bombshell in the latest episode
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise enthusiasts are speculating that multiple departures could be imminent following Friday’s latest episode.
DI Mervin Wilson, portrayed by Don Gilet, was all set to bid farewell to Saint Marie when a murder investigation of a fellow officer halted his plans. Despite heading to the airport, DI Wilson couldn’t resist getting involved after spotting something amiss at the crime scene, deciding to delay his departure until the mystery was resolved.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, played by Don Warrington, revealed shocking news about DI Wilson’s recently deceased mother, prompting him to reconsider his future on the island.
The episode also marked the return of fan-favourite JP Hooper, acted by Tobi Bakare. In it, JP urgently discussed his career prospects with the Commissioner.
“Sergeant, Hooper, I thought you had a plane to catch,” the Commissioner queried, reports the Mirror.
“Yes, I do,” JP acknowledged before revealing his dilemma. “But I wondered if I could have a chat with you. Have you got some time, sir? “.
With the Commissioner’s assent, JP disclosed: “So, there are some things I found out about at the headquarters back in Jamaica. They loop me into these things, you know?
“I shouldn’t really be saying anything, sir, but after everything you have done for me, I thought it would be wrong if I didn’t.”
“They are looking to change some things here,” he added. “Streamlining and your position, Commissioner, they are going to dissolve it. I am so sorry, sir.”
Fans were overjoyed to see JP’s return but also expressed worries about whether he might replace Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson) in the show.
One fan took to social media to ask: “I wonder if Naomi is leaving and JP is the new DS?”
The Commissioner’s fate also hangs in the balance, sparking concerns about whether he’ll be axed from the Saint Marie police force.
A fan expressed their worry, saying: “Please tell me Don Warrington isn’t leaving. He’s been the heart of the show since the pilot.”
Another fan chimed in, “He can’t leave, I won’t have it,” while a third fan wondered, “If the Commissioner is getting the sack, does that mean he’s leaving? “.
The rest of the series’ synopsis teases: “As an unexpected foe attempts to enforce the unfathomable, Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine), as Mayor, acts as the last line of defence in a battle to save the team as we know it.
“In an unexpected twist, Naomi (Shantol Jackson) finds herself at an emotional crossroads when an old flame from St Barnabas makes a surprising appearance on the island, while Darlene (Ginny Holder) becomes a mentor when a new officer joins the ranks, but is left questioning whether she’s the right person for the job.
“And with the opportunity to learn more about his mother’s life, Mervin begins to discover things may not be all they seem in Saint Marie. As everything he thought he knew unravels, will his life ever be the same again?”
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise returns next Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
