Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise has revealed the fate of Commissioner Selwyn Patterson.

Tonight, the exit of the much-loved character – played by Don Warrington – was revealed. As the team were dealt another difficult case to deal with, Selwyn was distracted by the arrival of his replacement.

Sterling Fox arrived to take over the job, although he wouldn’t be there permanently in the way Selwyn was. He told him: “I’ve only been on this island five minutes and I’ve already fallen in love with it. I know I’m going to have the best time working here,” he said.

“This is a great honour too. Getting to meet the great Commissioner Patterson. Back in HQ in Jamaica, they say you’re a total living legend,” Sterling added, before Selwyn fired back: “Makes you wonder why they’re getting rid of me.”

As the handover continued, Selwyn took Sterling to meet the team. DI Mervin Wilson was less than impressed with Sterling’s comments on his London accent. Sterling then revealed he would be there every other Wednesday and wanted ways to “streamline” things, as Naomi insisted they were “pretty efficient” with how they worked. Luckily, there was a distraction from the case they were working on as the meeting became frostier.

Later, when the case was wrapped, Selwyn was seen saying goodbye to Sterling and his office. “I want to thank you from everyone back at HQ for what you’ve done over the last – how many years is it? – 51?! Woah, wow! That’s a whole heap of experience you’ve got,” Sterling said, as the Commissioner questioned whether his replacement was up for the job.

“Well Selwyn, I wish you the very best with everything you do,” he said as he walked back into Government House, leaving Selwyn to make his way to his car. He noticed there was a scratch on his car, with the same colour of Sterling’s car, leaving him fuming.

However, there was nothing he could do and he drove off, realising this was it. However, a clue in the preview for the new episode has teased Selwyn’s fate. As the team investigate the case of Mervin’s mother Dorna Bray, it seems like Selwyn will be back – as he’s seen in the trailer wearing his police uniform once again after Catherine goes to speak to him.

But will Selwyn make a return or is this his exit for good?
