BritBox announced its slate of new releases and returning shows for 2025, including the long-running Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise. For 13 years, across 13 seasons and a total of three Christmas specials (and another one on the way), the beloved British detective show has been a go-to series for those looking for a feel-good viewing experience. Now that the series is about to introduce a new inspector with its upcoming 2024 Christmas special (set for release on Sunday, December 22), the release date window for the highly anticipated Season 14 has finally been revealed.
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise Season 14 is scheduled to arrive in February. As the detective crime comedy series welcomes the year 2025 with a new season, it is also set to introduce a new detective, with EastEnders star Don Gilet replacing Seasons 9 to 13 inspector Ralf Little. In addition to Death in Paradise, its spin-off series Beyond Paradise will also return this April. Other titles included in BritBox’s 2025 slate of returning shows include Blue Lights, Vera, Father Brown, Silent Witness, and Sister Boniface Mysteries.
‘Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise’ Finds Its Next Leading Man in Don Gilet
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise debuted with Ben Miller starring as detective inspector, Richard Poole. The actor stayed in the series until Season 2 and was replaced by Kris Marshall‘s Humphrey Goodman in Seasons 3 to 6. The detective series then changed its leading man yet again, with Ardal O’Hanlon having starred as Jack Mooney before he was replaced by Little’s Neville Parker for Season 9 up until the latest season.
The series is set to welcome its fifth inspector, with Gilet setting foot on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie as the new DI Mervin Wilson. The newest DI will be introduced in the forthcoming feature-length Christmas special before the Season 14 premiere in February. In a statement shared by Radio Times, the actor said:
“I am delighted to have returned to the wonderful island of Guadeloupe, and this time to be stepping into the well-worn shoes of the detective inspector. It’s been a real pleasure filming such a beloved series alongside the hardworking cast and crew. I can’t wait for the fans to see how DI Mervin Wilson fares on the island, how he fits within the Saint Marie police team and what secrets may unfold…”
Gilet is best known for his roles in Babyfather, Holby City, 55 Degrees North, Cape Wrath, Old Jack’s Boat, Rebel Cheer Squad, and the Jason Statham-led The Beekeeper. In Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise, the actor will be starring alongside returning cast members Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, Élizabeth Bourgine, and Danny John-Jules.
