Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise’s Don Warrington has famous son who’s appeared on screen with his dad

Don Warrington is best known for playing Selwyn Patterson in Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise, but the actor also has a famous son who has appeared in BBC series

Don Warrington, a star of the popular BBC series Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise, has a son who is also making waves in the acting world. Warrington, who has played the role of police commissioner Selwyn Patterson on the show since 2017, is the father of actor Jake Fairbrother.

As the original series concludes and its spin-off Beyond Paradise takes over, fans are keen to know more about the off-screen lives of the cast. Don, now 72, has an extensive acting career that spans from the sitcom Rising Damp to Red Dwarf, where he worked alongside his Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise co-star Danny John-Jules.

Born in Trinidad, Don moved to Newcastle upon Tyne at the age of seven with his mother and sibling following the tragic Dᴇᴀᴛʜ of his father, Basil Kydd, a prominent Trinidadian politician, in 1958. However, it’s Don’s son, Jake Fairbrother, who is carrying on the family’s acting tradition.

Jake’s acting credits include roles in the 2012 Bond film Skyfall, the TV drama Grace, and even an episode of Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise alongside his father in 2022, according to the Express. He has also appeared in Vera, The Sandman, and Alex Rider.

Interestingly, there was a period when both father and son were performing in plays in Manchester at the same time – Jake in The Maids at HOME Manchester, and Don in Dᴇᴀᴛʜ of a Salesman at the Royal Exchange theatre, reports Coventry Live.

In an interview with Quays Life in 2018, Jake shared some delightful coincidences regarding his familys ties with Manchester’s acting scene.

He said: “It’s absolutely a coincidence that my dad and I are working in Manchester at the same time, but a lovely one. He’s just down the road at the Royal Exchange in Dᴇᴀᴛʜ of a Salesman, which I saw last night.”

Excitedly, he continued: “His performance is incredible, everyone should try and see it. We’ll hopefully be able to grab pre-show dinners together once The Maids is up and running too.”

Jake expressed great respect for his parents’ careers in the world of drama. His mother, Mary Maddocks, also an actor and Dons wife, has graced the West End stage, most notably in The Rocky Horror Show.

In praising his parents influence, Jake noted: “The main thing I get from both of them is they understand the art of performance and the need to perform. It’s not something you choose to do. It’s something that you can’t not do.”

Don is proud of his childrens achievements in the entertainment industry. Aside from Jake, his son Archie, who is a writer and comedian, gained recognition for his 2021 play A Place For We, featuring Blake Harrison known for The Inbetweeners.

Archie’s comedy-drama Congton made waves as well, earning a commission from the BBC.
