D.e.a.t.h in Paradise fans ‘work out’ return of ‘favourite’ detective in spin-off
D.e.a.t.h in Paradise fans have called for a former DI to return to the BBC show - but this time with his own spin-off series.
Devotees of the hit series D.e.a.t.h in Paradise are crossing their fingers for a spin-off starring one of their beloved characters. Ardal O’Hanlon, who portrayed DI Jack Mooney on both D.e.a.t.h in Paradise and its fresh offshoot, Return to Paradise, could be set for his own solo adventure if fans have their way.
After O’Hanlon appeared in the new spin-off alongside the show’s inaugural female protagonist, viewers are now championing for DI Jack Mooney to be given his very own series.
While the BBC has yet to make any official announcements, it wouldn’t be the first time an ex-detective from the show would get a spin-off; Kris Marshall reprised his role as DI Humphrey Goodman in Beyond Paradise.
Passionate followers have been expressing their wishes on a D.e.a.t.h in Paradise Facebook fan page, with one enthusiast commenting: “I think they need to make a spin-off featuring DI Jack Mooney.”
The sentiment resonated with others, as one chimed in: “I would love that, he is still my favourite DI,” and another adding, “I’d like to see that,” reports the Express.
One simply penned: “YES!” whereas another fan declared, “I would love that; he is the best.”
Some even speculated about potential cameos in this proposed series, with a fan proposing: “Camille could make guest appearances along with Dwayne if he is helping his dad in London.”
Another fan conveyed enthusiasm for the character’s return: “I’d love to see Jack again.”
Jack’s departure from the island of Saint Marie occurred during the ninth season, when he decided to return to London with his daughter.
He subsequently delighted followers when he came back on screens in the Australian derivative, Return to Paradise, last year, where he acted as detective McKenzie Clarke’s (played by Anna Samson) supervisor.
Discussing his departure from D.e.a.t.h in Paradise, Ardal O’Hanlon told Radio Times in an earlier conversation: “I suppose I didn’t think I’d be doing anything for a fourth series. I really thought three series would be the max, you know. Because it’s quite a demanding show… it’s a tough old show in terms of being away from home for so long and in terms of the conditions that you film in the heat and the humidity.”
He also touched on the impact his absence had on his family life, saying: “I think she [Melanie] found it very tough because we’ve got three big grown-up kids living in the house and she’s got a lot on her plate, so I think she was finding it tougher as the years went on,” before concluding with: “And I was missing them all hugely as well, so I think it made sense.”
D.e.a.t.h in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
