Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) life has changed forever following the return of Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) in EastEnders.

A few months ago, when Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) was in prison for contempt of court, she learnt from cellmate Chrissie (Tracy-Ann Oberman) that she met a pregnant Ruby while behind bars.

Sharon and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) then decided to try and track Ruby down. They hired Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff), who managed to find information that confirmed Ruby was living in Essex after giving birth to a little boy in 2022.

Ruby returned to Walford yesterday because she thought Martin had stolen her son’s birth certificate. Once Sharon confirmed she was responsible, she left the lounge with Stacey (Lacey Turner) so Martin and Ruby could talk.

Because of Ruby’s history when it comes to lying, Martin couldn’t help wonder how truthful his ex was being about their baby. Ruby ended up telling Martin that she doesn’t have custody of their boy anymore, because she put him up for adoption.

The chance to meet his son seemingly destroyed, Martin headed to the café where he ended up getting some advice from his drunk mates.

Meanwhile, Ruby was organising a taxi out of Albert Square. Her relationship with former best friend Stacey was still incredibly fractured, and she made it clear she wasn’t intending on coming back to her former home.

Once Martin got back from the café, he decided to visit Kat (Jessie Wallace) to get some information about Ruby’s taxi booking, leading him and Stacey to the hospital.

As they wandered around and searched for Ruby, Stacey and Martin speculated over who she was there to see.

Following Ruby down a corridor, Martin and Stacey were taken aback when they realised she was visiting a young boy.

And as the penny dropped, Martin realised the little lad asleep in the bed is his son, Roman.
