EastEnders double return leaves residents shocked as huge secret revealed
There's emotional scenes to come in Albert Square next week as Martin Fowler's funeral draws closer, the soap sees a double return for two relatives back to say goodbye
EastEnders fans are set for emotional scenes next week, as Martin Fowler’s funeral draws closer. Martin tragically passed away during the 40th anniversary live episode last month after he became a victim to the explosion in the Queen Vic.
Whilst in hospital after giving birth to daughter Julia, in emotional scenes Sonia Fowler was heard calling her and Martin’s daughter Bex Fowler to inform her her dad has passed away. Next week, Bex, who left the show in 2020 to travel the world will be returning to the Square in preparation for her father’s funeral.
In emotional scenes, spoilers reveal that Bex is reunited with her struggling mother who’s juggling caring for her newborn daughter while grieving for ex Martin, and trying to come to terms with k.i.l.l.e.r fiancé Reiss Colwell’s actions and his d.e.a.t.h.
However, Bex won’t be the only one returning. Next week will also see the return of his niece Vicki Fowler, who will be returning to the Square after two decades away. Vicki won’t be alone however, as she’ll be joined alongside her new boyfriend Ross and son Joel.
Vicki left Albert Square in 2004 as she jet off to Australia with her partner Spencer Moon, as they left to run a bar. However, as she returns without him, it’s clear she’s hiding some secrets as residents including Spencer’s brother Alfie are shocked to see her with a new man. As far as they are aware they’re still an item, but soon she shares some big news.
Vicki is questioned by Alfie and Kat on the whereabouts of Spencer and why they broke up, and it’s not long before the real reason is revealed…
Last month, it was announced that Vicki Fowler would be making a return to the soap. However, her role was recast, with Alice Haig replacing former soap star Scarlett Alice Johnson.
Speaking about her debut on the soap, Alice said: “I am so excited. “I have always watched the show, and I was born in February 1985, so I’m the same age as EastEnders! It’s so cool to be playing a character like Vicki – we think we know her, but a lot has changed. I can’t wait for all the Albert Square drama ahead.”
Fans may recognise Vicki’s boyfriend Ross as he’s played by The Bill, Holby City and Waterloo Road star Alex Walkinshaw.
Speaking on his new role, Alex said: “I am really excited as I’ve had so many friends on EastEnders throughout the years, and I always hear lovely things about it.
“The show is top draw drama and I can’t wait to get stuck in. Ross is a decent, hardworking family man, he always puts family first, and he is very in love with Vicki, but it’s not always plain sailing.”
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
