EastEnders exit ‘sealed’ for legend after 40 years in new Cindy Beale anniversary twist
EastEnders fans are convinced that Cindy Beale will shoot her ex-husband Ian Beale, after she went to extreme lengths to protect herself in the BBC soap this week

In a surprising turn of events during Wednesday’s episode (January 29) of EastEnders, Cindy Beale (played by Michelle Collins) is plotting a deadly move. Earlier this week, Gina Knight (portrayed by Francesca Henry) was revealed to be the one who threw a brick through Cindy’s window along with a threat for her mum.
Despite pleading with Cindy that she wasn’t the Christmas Day attacker and refusing to confirm her alibi, Gina was forced to admit that she spent Christmas night with Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier), leaving her sister Anna (Molly Rainford) heartbroken.
In the latest Walford drama, Anna and Gina had a heated argument over Freddie which escalated into a fight, reports Plymouth Live.
Although he denied her request, she sneakily noted down the safe code for future use. Now, EastEnders fans are worried that Cindy might shoot Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) again.
Back in 1996, Cindy hired a hitman to shoot her husband Ian, but he only suffered a graze and survived while Cindy ended up behind bars. As the soap’s 40th anniversary in February approaches, could history be about to repeat itself? Some fans certainly think so.
One viewer took to X and posted: “Cindy using ‘self defence’ to get a gun. Remember the last time she got hold of a gun. Ian got shot. #Eastenders @bbceastenders.”
One viewer reacted with a biting reminder: “The last time Cindy had a gun, she tried to shoot Ian #EastEnders.” Meanwhile, another EastEnders fan pointed out: “#EastEnders Cindy claims she’s never been violent, forgetting about Ian being shot.”
The irony wasn’t lost on another audience member either, who commented on a past episode: “Brilliant line there from Cindy as I watch last night’s #EastEnders – ‘I’ve never been violent’. Getting Ian shot was pure benevolence, then?”
EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer
