EastEnders star Lacey Turner has spoken out about the chance of a reunion between her character Stacey Slater and her ex-husband Martin Fowler (James Bye), admitting she wants to see them ‘together forever’.

Fans of the former soap couple have been living in hope they could reconcile after sharing an unexpected kiss earlier this month.

However, Martin has also been getting closer to his other ex-wife Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) amid their son Roman’s health battle.

Stacey suffers further blows this week, when she finds out Ruby has moved in with Martin, and his best friend Zack Hudson (James Farrar) pushes for him to give Ruby another chance.

It’s set to be a big Christmas of ups and downs for the trio, but Lacey is not giving up hope that Stacey and Martin will eventually settle down together.

She says: ‘I think what it is between Martin and Stacey is that she has always had feelings for him, it’s just they never quite work out whenever they’re together. I think they are one of those couples that shouldn’t be together, but they really want to be together.

‘Every time they try it never really works. I think seeing Ruby with him has probably made her go “Oh, I definitely do have feelings for him, but maybe I’m a bit late.”’

She continues: ‘I always think Martin and Stacey would be a wonderful old couple, but I don’t know.

‘I’d love to see them together forever, but who knows. It always seems to go a bit pear-shaped when they are together, so maybe they’re like Ross and Rachel [from Friends].’

Stacey and Martin have remained close since they divorced in 2020, even having a brief fling last year.

Martin married her best friend Ruby in 2020, prompting a fallout between the women. Ruby then falsely accused Stacey of pushing her down the stairs and causing her to lose her unborn baby, resulting in Stacey being jailed.

Ruby was later carted off to prison herself in 2021, when Stcaey’s mum Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) set her up as revenge for framing Stacey.

Fans have previously predicted Stacey, Martin and Ruby will be at the centre of a special storyline for EastEnders’ 40th anniversary in February.

Earlier this year, it was announced that there will be an interactive live episode, during which viewers will get the chance to vote on the outcome of a love story, with the actors then having to respond live on air.
