A soap legend has made a surprise return to EastEnders after 15 years away.

Cliff Parisi was back on the soap as Minty Peterson in Wednesday night’s episode for scenes in the Queen Vic. It was a thrill for him to be back on set after so long.

Ricky Groves also returned as hapless Garry Hobbs in the episode. And iconic couple Pauline and Arthur Fowler came back in a 1980s throwback this week too.

Call The Midwife star Cliff said: “It was great fun, I really enjoyed it. It was like going back to an old house that you used to live in but the furniture has been moved around a bit.”

He said: “It was a lovely day. It felt weird because I hadn’t been there for 14 years so it was great to see my old buddies.

“It was great to meet some of the newer cast. I only wish I was there for more.”

Cliff and Ricky are among a string of show legends returning as part of the soap’s 40th anniversary episodes. Others back include Ross Kemp as Grant Mitchell and Jaime Winstone as a young Peggy Mitchell.

Wednesday night’s episode also saw West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen make a cameo appearance as himself in a video message for Billy Mitchell, played by Perry Fenwick.

The player said: “It’s great to be part of the EastEnders 40th anniversary celebrations and appear on the show. “EastEnders is loved by so many people and obviously has a strong link to the east London community, so to represent West Ham United in this very special episode is a really nice moment for everyone connected with the club.”
