EastEnders legend reveals surprising return update and admits bosses ‘have got the hump’ with him after anniversary snub
The actor also revealed the real reason he quit the BBC soap
AN EastEnders legend has given a surprise update on a potential return – three years after his shock exit.
EastEnders fans were devastated in December 2022 when the iconic character left the soap, with him assumed d.e.a.d.
Now Danny Dyer has confessed he would be up for reprising his role as Mick Carter.
The actor – whose new movie Marching Powder will be released later this month – also claimed show bosses aren’t happy with him, which is why he wasn’t part of the recent 40th anniversary celebrations.
Appearing on The Late, Late Show, Danny, 47, said: “I do have a lot of people asking me about whether I’m going back and I’ll be honest, I would have gone back if they’d have asked me, but they didn’t ask me.
“I think they’ve got the hump with me now, I don’t know why!”
Danny also revealed he made the decision to quit after eight years as Mick when he learned his character would become romantically involved with superbitch Janine Butcher, played by Charlie Brooks.
Explosive scenes over Christmas 2022 saw Mick reunite with ex-wife Linda [Kellie Bright] after learning the truth about scheming Janine.
As Janine attempted to flee Walford, Mick and Linda followed in an intense car chase.
Janine and Linda ended up driving off of a cliff into the sea, with Mick apparently drowing as he attempted to save Linda’s life.
Danny continued: “They put me with Janine, and I think when you end up with Janine, you’ve got to get out before you become…
“You know she’s going to m.u.r.d.e.r you eventually! So, I had to leave.”
But The Business star Danny admitted he would return to Albert Square if the viewers wanted Mick back.
He said: “Who knows? Maybe I will go back.
“You know, if the appetite’s still there for it, then maybe bring Mick back.”
