Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) may have just made the biggest mistake of her life in EastEnders after Phil (Steve McFadden) came to realise that she’d attempted to get him to relapse.

Phil, as viewers know, is a recovering alcoholic and he’s going through a particularly tough time right now, struggling with feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Nicola, who has made quite the impression on audiences since her debut, came to discover such a thing and instead of offering her support she saw fit to exploit Phil’s situation, hoping to use it to get what she wants.

And what she wants is ex-husband Teddy (Roland Manookian), who has just embarked on a relationship with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).

Having been told all about Sharon and Phil’s past, Nicola spied an opportunity to reunite the former flames, informing Sharon that Phil has been living in squalor.

Sharon thought her intentions were honourable and paid Phil a visit, letting him know that she’s still here for him – even though they’re not together anymore.

With her plan having failed, Nicola decided to step things up a gear, bringing Phil a bottle of booze as a present – despite the fact that Sharon had informed her earlier that day of the hard man’s alcoholism.

Phil spent much of Wednesday’s (December 11) edition of the serial desperately trying to resist the urge to drink, offering his support to Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), who is currently in the grips of her addition following a relapse.

Sharon, meanwhile, was livid when she learned that Nicola dropped a bottle of alcohol off for Phil, telling him that she informed the newcomer about his addiction.

Phil and Sharon both publicly confronted Nicola, who was taken aback, not having realised that she would be caught out.

Nicola quickly covered her tracks, claiming that it was an innocent mistake – but it’s clear that Phil and Sharon will be keeping their wits about them where she is concerned!

Will Nicola rue the day she got on the wrong side of Phil?

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One or stream from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
